HOMEOWNER TIP MONDAY
South Carolina summer storms can roll through fast, but the damage they leave behind isn't always obvious.
After every heavy rain or thunderstorm, take 5–10 minutes to walk around the outside of your home. Catching small problems early can help prevent expensive repairs later.
Here's what to look for:
✔️ Loose branches or limbs resting on your roof or hanging overhead. Even small branches can damage shingles if left in place.
✔️ Gutters full of leaves and debris. Clogged gutters can't drain properly, which can cause water to overflow around your foundation or back up onto your roof.
✔️ Standing water around your home's foundation, patios, or walkways. If water isn't draining away, it can lead to erosion and moisture issues over time.
✔️ Mud splashed onto siding, brick, or concrete. Storm runoff can leave behind stains and grime that become harder to remove if left for weeks.
✔️ Debris on driveways, sidewalks, and patios. Wet leaves, pine needles, and sticks can create slippery surfaces and leave stains if they sit too long.
A quick walk around your property after a storm only takes a few minutes, but it can save you hundreds, or even thousands, in repairs down the road.
