The internet says bleach “Feeds mold" 🥴 One of the weirdest debates on the internet....
Apparently bleach is out here feeding mold like it’s preparing for the Olympics....
That’s been floating around social media for years… and it’s not how mold works 😬
Bleach absolutely kills mold....on non-porous surfaces. That’s one of the reasons professional mold remediation companies still use chlorine-based disinfectants.
So where did this myth come from?
Bleach doesn’t pe*****te porous materials very well.
If mold is growing inside drywall, wood, grout, or insulation, bleach may kill what you see on the surface but not what’s deeper inside the material.
Then the mold comes back.
Not because bleach “made it stronger”…
but because the mold was still there and the moisture problem wasn’t fixed.
In real mold remediation, contaminated porous materials often get removed, not just sprayed.
Also worth mentioning: hydrogen peroxide is another great option for mold cleanup. It’s antimicrobial, breaks down into water and oxygen, and can pe*****te surfaces better than bleach in some situations.
So no… bleach doesn’t create super mold.
But it’s also not a magic cure-all either.
Basically....If the moisture problem isn’t fixed, mold will come back no matter what cleaner you use.
