📚STORY TIME:
🏡 Scene: Picture a cute little cottage in the woods, simple, cozy, everything you need and nothing you don't. This sweet spot is a short term rental property, and she stayed booked.
🗣 A guest reports an issue "we've got bites, could this be bedbugs?"
🔎The property owners are WORRIED. It can't be! They call an exterminator for a visual inspection. The inspection results show no bugs found, no sign of bugs, so the guests much of gotten chiggers, seed ticks, mosquito bites.
😥 Next guests check-in "we've got bites, there's something wrong..." The property manager calls the exterminator again and asks for a treatment just to be on the safe side.
🕰 Time passes. No bites for a while until a month or two passes and a familiar discussion pops up.... "we've got bites"
😖It can't be! They’re in denial, “we already treated!” Until their housekeeper sees a bug crawling on the bed. Confirmation, they've got bed bugs.
🤔 Exterminator comes again, and SURELY this treatment will work. No one sees bugs, no one is worried, except the property manager can't quite stop thinking about the issue at hand; "Did we get rid of them all?"
👀 All of the visual only inspections say there aren't any bugs, but are those bed bug poops new or old? Was that exoskeleton there before or did it get moved? It can't be new....
🐾 The property manager explored their options and found Bed Bug Detection dogs, utilized the NESDCA website and registry of certified teams, where they found us.
🕵🏼 K9 Dreama worked her magic and alerted on one bed, then the next, and then a dresser next to the bed. This prompted a further look into the space where we flipped a mattress to see what we can find. You can guess the rest.
🛌 It’s not a good day telling people they have bed bugs, however, it is a good day when our dogs do their job with the level of accuracy that allows us to find individual bed bugs wherever they are hiding. Now this property can get thoroughly treated and move forward into the busy fall season with the confidence that their guests won’t get any more bites or bring home any problems from what should be a dream vacation.
