Mosquito vs Crane fly
Both frequently confused for the other. Not to mention they both look quite similar and are found in similar habitats. I thought it would be fun to go over the differences. Can you guess which one is completely harmless?
1. Crane flies are much larger than mosquitos. They have long, straight bodies which are around 1.5 inches long.
2. Mosquitos have fairly long legs, but nowhere near as long as a crane fly.
3. Crane flies have one pair of wings, mosquitos have two pairs of wings.
4. Adult crane flies don’t eat at all, the larvae feed on plants, crops, seedlings, and algae.
5. Female mosquitos feed on both human, and animal blood.
6. The biggest difference is how dangerous each are. Crane flies are completely harmless. As we mentioned before, female mosquitos feed on human and animal blood.
