WE WANT YOU TO KNOW
When it comes to landscaping, mulch beds are a popular choice for their aesthetic curb appeal and ability to retain moisture for plants. Super Clean Power Washing wants you to know, it is important to be cautious about where you are placing your mulch beds. We all know moisture and heat grows mold. Most landscapers do not know or do not share this information.
Artillery fungus, also known as shotgun fungus, is a type of mold fungus that commonly grows in mulch beds in North Carolina. This fungus can shoot spores several feet into the air, and when these spores land on surfaces such as siding and vehicles, they can create unsightly black spots that are difficult to remove. These spots can be particularly troublesome on light-colored surfaces, as they stand out more prominently.
To avoid the issue of artillery fungus, black spots on your siding and vehicles, it's best to keep mulch beds at a safe distance from your house and car. Super Clean Power Washing recommends using white stone next to homes for landscaping. Super Clean Power Washing also recommends maintaining a clearance of at least 10 feet or more between mulch beds and any structures to prevent the spread of these spores. Another way to suppress these mold spores from sporing if they are close is to spray directly on the tops of mulch beds, with a house hold bleach and half water mixture during hot seasons. Do not spray on your plants or flowers. This will kill the mold. You can use a spray bottle or pump sprayer from your local department store. By taking this simple precaution, you can enjoy the benefits of mulch beds in your landscaping without having to worry about the unsightly black spots caused by artillery fungus.
