July in Maine brings the heat, and for wasps, this is peak hustle season. Because they are cold-blooded, the high temperatures supercharge their metabolism, making them incredibly fast, energetic, and active.
Tips
- Spray down your outdoor trash cans and recycling bins with soapy water to remove leaky soda or juice residue.
- When eating outdoors, keep food covered. Once finished, clear plates immediately.
- Inspect the soffits, rooflines, and gaps behind shutters.
Note: If you see wasps actively flying in and out of a crack in your siding, do not seal it shut yet. Doing so will trap them inside, forcing them to chew through your drywall and enter the inside of your home. Treat the nest first (or call a pro), then seal the gap.
