🕷️ THE JORO SPIDERS ARE BACK! 🕸️

If you’ve been outside lately and noticed some unusually large spiders building huge webs around your porch, trees, gutters, or the side of your home… you’re definitely not alone.

Joro spiders have become a familiar sight here in Georgia, especially as we get into late summer and early fall. And while their size and bright yellow, black, and red coloring can make them look pretty intimidating, they’re generally not aggressive toward people.

A few interesting things you may not know:

🕷️ Female Joro spiders can have a leg span of several inches.

🕸️ They build incredibly strong, golden-colored webs that can stretch several feet across.

🥚 Females lay egg sacs containing hundreds of eggs that survive the winter and hatch the following spring.

💨 Young Joro spiders can actually travel by “ballooning,” using strands of silk to catch the wind and carry them to new areas.

🪰 Like other orb-weaving spiders, Joros feed on insects that get caught in their webs.

Even though Joro spiders aren’t considered a major threat to people, having giant spiders and webs covering your porch, deck, or the outside of your home isn’t exactly everyone’s idea of good company!

Just because your house is “made of brick” and has Termite shields in the crawlspace doesn’t mean you can’t get Termites. This is a house we treated for Termites today that was absolutely infested, one of the worst cases I’ve seen recently. The metal termite shields in the crawl didn’t even slow them down, they just went right around them.

We like bug facts, so here’s one for you!

The German Cockroach under ideal conditions can produce thousands of descendants in a single year. Each ootheca (fancy word for egg) will contain about 40 roaches per, and she can produce about 8 egg sacks in her lifetime. Her young will mature in about 40-60 days depending on access to food and other resources, then start reproducing themselves. You get the picture, before you know it that one single roach that you thought you might have saw out of the corner of your eye will soon be an overwhelming infestation.

They can be brought into your home via
- Cardboard boxes ( amazon and other packages you get every day)
- Groceries
- Friends and Family visiting
- Used electronics you got on Marketplace
- Secondhand furniture
- Neighboring apartments
The list goes on.

Preventative maintenance is imperative in catching it early.
