After 15 years of hard-work, my husband and I took a long vacation in Europe. Now we have to work until we are 90 to pay off the vacation. LOL

This post shows - You can take the wildlife people out of the country, but the wildlife still finds us. We rescued a Cormorant tangled in fishing line in Croatia, We rescued a pigeon trapped in a long glass corridor at Frankfurt airport and we moved a snake out of the road on the way back. Not that I like being in pictures.... (I LOATHE IT) but it was funny that I cannot get away from it. From being a 4 year old with snakes crammed in my pockets, tadpoles in jars from the ditches, live lizards clamped on to my ears as earrings - the list goes on & on.

I'm glad that our family has had the pleasure to do what we deeply enjoy doing for so many years. Thank you for your continued support in the area.

NOT ALL WILDLIFE EXCLUSIONS ARE THE SAME!

This is the kind of work that turns our stomach — because it makes the entire wildlife-control industry look bad.

The photo you’re looking at is exclusion work completed by another wildlife-control company. We won’t name them. The problem speaks for itself.

The opening was larger than the piece of metal the technician had available. Instead of getting a properly sized piece of material and sealing the opening correctly, the metal was installed anyway — leaving a substantial gap ABOVE the repair.

That gap is large enough for a mouse, rat, or flying squirrel to enter.

And a squirrel? That exposed edge gives it something to get its teeth on, allowing it to chew and enlarge the opening until it can gain access too.

So what exactly was accomplished? … Absolutely Nothing.

The entire purpose of Wildlife Exclusion is to prevent animals from entering the structure. If you leave an opening large enough for wildlife to use, the exclusion is pointless.

This isn't just a crooked piece of metal or an ugly repair. It isn't simply inexperienced workmanship.

It is a blatant disregard for professional standards and for the homeowner who paid for the work to be done correctly.

This is also one of the reasons Southern Wildlife Management has intentionally remained a small, family-operated company. We don't want to grow by putting crews of unrelated technicians on the road and hoping they care about the finished product as much as we do.

We do our own exclusion work.

When our name is on it, we want to know who installed it, how it was installed, what materials were used, and whether that home is actually protected when we leave.

Wildlife Exclusion isn't about covering a hole with metal. It's about knowing wildlife, understanding how animals get into structures, and making sure there isn't another way back in. Not all exclusions are the same. And unfortunately, a piece of metal on your house doesn't necessarily mean your house has been wildlife-proofed. Yet, we were the ones that had to break it to the homeowners.

BAT MATERNITY SEASON IS OVER — WHICH MEANS BAT EVICTIONS CAN BEGIN!

This is the time of year we’ve been waiting for!

During Bat Maternity Season, bats are protected for a very good reason. Female bats gather in maternity colonies to give birth and raise their pups, and those babies are unable to fly for several weeks. Evicting the adults too early can leave flightless babies trapped inside an attic with no way to survive.

Now that maternity season has ended, we can humanely evict bats from homes without the fear of leaving flightless babies behind.
At Southern Wildlife Management, our goal is simple:

✅ Get the bats OUT
✅ Keep the bats from getting back IN
✅ Do it QUICKLY & HUMANELY
✅ Complete the process without harming the bats

Bats are an important part of our ecosystem, and they deserve to be protected. They just don’t need to be living in your attic!
And speaking of Bat Exclusion… I have to share something that absolutely floored me.

We recently gave a homeowner in Blue Ridge, Georgia an estimate for Bat Exclusion. They told us our estimate was MORE THAN $10,000 LESS than the estimate they received from a national franchise.

TEN. THOUSAND. DOLLARS. LESS. 😳

At first I was shocked. Then, quite frankly, I got angry.

I understand that EVERYTHING is more expensive today. Materials cost more. Insurance costs more. Labor costs more. Running a legitimate, licensed wildlife company costs more.

BUT COME ON!!!!!

There is a difference between charging enough to operate a professional business and handing a homeowner an astronomical estimate because they’re scared, have bats living above their heads, and don’t know what the service should reasonably cost.
We’ve been a local, family-owned North Georgia wildlife company for more than 15 years. We know how to solve bat problems, we know how to properly Bat-Proof a home, and we believe homeowners deserve professional work at a FAIR price.

If you’ve been told you have bats and received an estimate that made your jaw hit the floor, GET ANOTHER ESTIMATE.
Seriously.

A bat problem needs to be handled correctly — but protecting your home should not require taking out a second mortgage.

Protect your home from aggressive stinging insects! 🐝⚠️

Did you know Yellowjackets and European Hornets commonly establish massive colonies inside walls, eaves, attics, and soffits? Unlike bees, these stinging pests can build huge nests behind your drywall, chew through structural materials, and become extremely aggressive if disturbed.

At Southern Wildlife Management, we specialize in Complete Hive & Nest Removal Services. We don't just spray the surface—we locate the main nest, safely remove the entire colony. Spraying the entrance WILL drive them deeper into the wall and could force them to chew through the drywall and breach the home.

Why Choose Southern Wildlife Management?

- 15+ Years of Experience: As a local, family-owned business, we’ve spent over a decade and a half keeping North Georgia homes safe.

- Safe & Professional: Expert handling to prevent painful stings and protect your property.

Proudly Serving North Georgia: Johns Creek | Alpharetta | Duluth | Cu***ng | Milton | Suwanee | Dacula | Dawsonville (and everywhere in between!)

If you hear buzzing in your walls or notice hornets coming & going into the wall on the outside of your home - don't delay.

Copperheads are a perfect example of just how well snakes can disappear into the North Georgia landscape. Their coloring allows them to blend almost perfectly with leaves, pine straw, mulch, rocks, and wooded areas—sometimes making them difficult to spot even when they are right in front of you.

For homeowners dealing with frequent snake activity, it can feel like a never-ending battle. But one of the most important things to understand is this:

Snakes usually aren’t showing up for no reason. They are following food.

One of the biggest attractants we see around North Georgia homes is bird feeders.

Bird seed doesn’t just attract birds. Seed scattered underneath feeders attracts mice, rats, squirrels, chipmunks, and other small animals. Once rodents discover an easy food source, snakes may eventually discover the rodents.

Bird Feeders → Rodents → Snakes

If you are trying to reduce snake activity around your property, removing bird feeders is one of the FIRST changes we recommend.
You can also help by keeping grass and vegetation maintained, cleaning up brush and debris, reducing hiding areas around the home, and addressing rodent activity before it becomes established.

We can never completely eliminate snakes from the North Georgia outdoors—and we shouldn’t expect to. They are part of our ecosystem. But we CAN make your property less attractive to the prey and conditions that continually bring them closer to your home.

Snake prevention often starts long before you ever see the snake.

Our family-business mourns the loss of Bruce’s Father and namesake, Bruce Lyman.

Bruce had a playful spirit and lived life on his own terms. He did things his way, found humor wherever he could, and brought a sense of fun to those around him.

That is how he will be remembered: full of personality, laughter, and always unapologetically & completely himself.

“There is a heaven above you, 🎼” Bruce.

Rest easy. You will always be remembered.
