Here is my history in this industry:
In 1968, Leon Dowdy started a little pressure washer and chemical company with one used truck and a box of tools.
He worked mostly by himself for 8 years. I began helping him after my classes in high school beginning in 1976.
In 1978, after I graduated from high school, I began full time. Sweeping the floor, taking out the trash, blending chemicals, washing trucks and building equipment. I did all the menial labor including outside service work until 1982.
In the of 1982, I began double duty. Working in the warehouse doing all the blending of the chemicals and servicing customerâs equipment in North Georgia.
I helped expand the business by bringing in a guy from Buffalo, NY and another guy from Smyrna, GA.
My Brother in Law joined the company. His brother joined the company. We hired more warehouse help and mechanics.
We eventually had 15 people including my Mother that had been with us from the beginning. In the late 70s and 80s we had explosive growth by offering honest, reliable customer service and fair pricing for everyone. We were at our peak in January of 1997.
On a cold January morning in 1997, I saw my Dad for the last time. Doing what he loved the most. Working. I left the shop to go to Chattanooga, TN. A customer was getting a complex installation by us. It was an automatic truck wash machine. At the time we had clip on pagers. The office kept paging me for some reason. I used the customers telephone to call the office. My Dad had been taken to the hospital. He wasnât feeling well. I never saw him again. Sadly, my Dad passed away at 60 years old. He was a good man, treated everyone fairly and honestly. He was proud of his company he had built from the sweat of his brow and strong determination.
He was the glue that kept us all together. Not long after he passed away, the loyal employees started getting greedy and going their separate ways. This is not what he wouldâve wanted.
So, I carry on with his determination, fairness and his dream. I felt like itâs the right thing. So now, 51 years since he started his little business. Iâm left to carry on. This is my 43rd year of gladly providing quality, fair and honest service to you, the customer.
