A cable buys you weeks. Jetting buys you years.

A cable machine bores a hole through the blockage. Water drains, everybody's happy,
the truck leaves — and the grease and root are still stuck to the pipe wall, closing the
line again from the day you paid for it.
That's why the line that backed up in March backs up again in June.

Hydro jetting is a different job. High-pressure water scours the full diameter: roots cut
back at the joint, grease stripped off the wall, the pipe back to its real size. A properly
jetted line typically runs three to five times longer between service than a cabled one.
And sometimes a cable really is all a line needs — we'll tell you that too. Some lines shouldn't be jetted at all. That's what the camera pass is for.

What I'm actually watching for when your line's on the screen.

Roots at the joints. Grease and scale on the wall. Low spots holding water. The pipe material and its condition — especially anything too fragile to jet. Cracks or offsets. Every foot gets read against twenty years of North Idaho pipe, then I clean it the way that pipe can handle.

Late summer is peak root season. Your sewer line is the buffet.

When it's dry out, roots hunt for water — and the little bit of moisture off your sewer pipe is a magnet. If your main slows down every August, that's usually why. Jetting cuts them back and cleans the wall so it stays clear far longer than punching through and leaving a fringe.

Why pay more to jet when a snake is cheaper? Fair question.

Because a snake often has you calling again in a few months — same clog, same bill. Jetting cleans the whole wall, so on the right line it lasts 3 to 5 times longer. Sometimes the snake is genuinely the right call and I'll say so.

But 'cheaper today' and 'cheaper this year' aren't the same thing.

Standing water and paper waste at 43 feet. Is that a problem? Depends.

A low spot holding water might be fine for years — or it might be why you back up every spring. Jetting clears what's collecting in it; the camera tells us whether the sag itself needs a real fix down the road. Either way you'll know, instead of guessing every time it gurgles.
