Today we moved furniture at two homes. The first home was flooded under 7 feet of water one month ago. The second floor furniture was still useable so we loaded it into a Uhaul truck for transport to a storage facility.
At the second home we moved furniture out of a home that was ready for rebuilding. The elderly homeowner wanted to protect his furniture while the house was being remodeled.
At the end of the day, a couple from the host church took our entire team to dinner. While we are away from our families, their kindness and generosity made us feel like we had family here too. Thanks for following our progress, we are about to head back to Phoenix after a rewarding trip in Houston.

Today we worked on a house in Little York, TX. The family was there during the demo work. We removed all of the drywall up to 48 inches throughout the entire house. No work had been started since the flood. Having the family watch 10 of us tearing out drywall, door trim, cabinets, and some flooring was both rewarding and emotional. We were able to remove some of their possessions but they had not been able to return to their home for fear of mold. When we finished, we all joined hands and prayed together with them.
The host church where we have been staying has been wonderful. They are planning to continue the recovery and rebuild process for another 11 months. Anyone interested in joining the relief effort in Houston can contact us to find out how.
It seems like our efforts are barely making a dent in the incredible needs here in Houston. However, lives are changing one house at a time and we are being changed too. Even though we are tired everyday, we are really enjoying this work. Thank you for supporting us and sharing our posts.

Katy, TX today. We worked at a house in a neighborhood devastated beyond our imagination. The homes in this community were large, upscale homes. The piles of drywall and damaged personal items, furniture, and cabinets were 10 feet high. Water level in this home reached about 2 feet. Much of the work had been done before we arrived, so we cleaned up the drywall on the floor and removed the doorframes.
Later in the afternoon, we started working on another home in the same area. The owner said she had an alligator in her backyard when she and her husband were forced to evacuate via boat during the flood. We plan to return to her home in the morning.
This has been an incredibly emotional experience for the people of Houston. The recovery effort seems overwhelming. They are very happy to have so many people offering help.
We are grateful to our families for supporting our efforts here. Thank you!

We worked on a house in South Houston today. We did drywall and cabinet demo in 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. This house was under 4 feet of water last month. A neighbor's dog kept us company all day. There is a lot of work that needs to be done around here. We are very humbled by the circumstances these good people have been dealing with. Thanks for the prayers and support.

We've arrived in Houston and are settled in to our new home for the next 5 nights. Salem Tomball Church in Northeast Houston. We will receive our orders tomorrow and keep you posted. Thanks again to all of our customers for letting us serve Houston. -Josh

Don't use a pole in the water during a thunderstorm... we don't and you shouldn't either. Rain in the desert can make a pool dirty and change the chemistry, though not as much as you might think. When the rain stops, run your filter pump for an additional 2-6 hours, clean your baskets, and check your pool chemistry. Or you can call Murphy's and let us take care of it for you.
