My DadaAbu: *KHAWAJA ZUBAIR AHMAD…PIONEER OF PAKISTAN HAND KNOTTED CARPET INDUSTRY !!!*
Published a supplement in Pakistan Times on May 03, 1973 about Hand Knotted Carpet Industry. There was a front page ad saying, “WE ARE THE PIONEER” and the company was Pak Punjab Carpet Manufacturing Company, under the leadership of Cheif Executive Khawaja Zubair Ahmad. Met him first time then and what an excellent man he was. All the following years since then, had privilege of enjoying his company as a mentor and a great friend. He passed away last day on August 04, 2022 at age of 93.
He was a noble and soft hearted man with brilliant business sense. He was actually the pioneer of Hand Knotted Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers And Exporters in 1970s and the industry grew leaps and bounds under his leadership. There was a time in 70s and 80s when there were around 1.5 million people directly or indirectly dependent on this industry for their livelihood. And this industry was 3rd biggest in Pakistan after Textile and Leather. The man behind this success was Khawaja Zubair Ahmad. Without any doubt he deserved recognition from State Of Pakistan for his services to the industry and the nation. He successfully held Pakistan’s first International Carpet Manufacturers And Exporters Exhibition in 1976. He always worked and planned for welfare of common people and this was the basic reason for him working hard to bring as much export business to Pakistan as possible. There was a time when all the dignitaries used to visit his factory as a gesture to show solidarity with Pakistani bussiness community, and his company’s carpets were presented as gifts by Pakistani Statesmen on official foreign visits. He will always be remembered as the Father Figure for Pakistan Hand Knotted Carpet Industry.
