🌿 GREENING TAUPŌ DAY – 4TH JUNE 2026 🌿
We’re painting the town green again… and we’re proud to be part of it.

At Epro, our work in the ngahere doesn’t stop at possums, rats and mustelids — it’s about restoring balance and giving our native ecosystems the best chance to thrive.

That includes managing wild deer populations, which, while iconic to some, are serious pests in our forests. They strip native vegetation, damage regeneration, and put pressure on the very spaces we’re working to protect.

Every year, we bring the full story to Greening Taupō Day.

The deer harvested as part of our control work aren’t going to waste — they’re being turned into proper, hearty venison sausages for the community to enjoy on the day. 🌭

It’s about:
✔️ Protecting our ngahere
✔️ Reducing pest pressure
✔️ Giving back to the community in a real, tangible way

From the bush… to the BBQ.

Not everything we protect is loud, obvious, or easy to see.

Sometimes it’s the quiet watcher in the bush, the rare snail under your feet, or the birds you only notice when the forest is finally alive again.

These photos are a reminder of what’s really at stake.

Our native species evolved without predators like rats, stoats, and possums. That means things like ground-dwelling snails, native frogs, and nesting birds are incredibly vulnerable. Without control work, they don’t just struggle — they disappear.

Predator control isn’t about taking — it’s about giving back.
It gives these species a fighting chance to breed, to grow, and to reclaim the spaces they once thrived in.

Healthier forests. More birdsong. Life where there was silence.

This is why we do what we do. 🌿

| Feral cats will be added to Predator Free 2050's hitlist, a sharp change of policy announced by Conservation Minister Tama Potaka.

The move appears to be a sudden change of tack after RNZ's reporting this week pointed out Prime Minister Christopher Luxon had promised during a 2023 election debate to add feral cats but failed to do so.
