Super Local is a design studio that finds sustainable solutions for social and cultural problems. 90% of the world population doesn’t have the financial capacity for traditional design, but does have a need for well-designed products and insightful solutions. We are passionated problem solvers and find ourselves mostly in non-western countries. Our human centred approach is hands-on and based on c

ollaboration with local communities, organisations and partners. We don’t like the teaching attitude. That’s why we invest in a equal relationship. Solutions are always found in the country itself - by supporting local economy, creating employment and encourage entrepreneurship we provide positive impact. These things are impossible to accomplish without knowing the place. That’s why we love to go there and diving in the subject; Doing extensive research and start creating a positive change. The result ranges from clever designed products, ready-made concepts and implementable services to complete local productions and case studies. Both commissioned as from our own initiative.

We’ve seen it happen so many times, but it’s still kind of magical 🧙‍♂️ to watch dirty plastic waste get turned into something both beautiful and useful.

Over the years, our partner in Nepal has really stepped up their plastic recycling skills — from shredding and washing to carefully injecting and finishing each piece. Their hard work really shows, and we’re happy to be part of the process with them. ✨

After the success of our “From the Himalayas” project in collaboration with and in Nepal, we’re exited to announce the next chapter! 🙌

Once again, we came together to expand the product collection and introduce fresh new designs – all made from plastic and glass waste!

This time, our focus was to create products for the local Nepalese market 🇳🇵showcasing how discarded waste can be transformed into something valuable and impactful

SUPER LOCAL is offering an internship 🔨
We are looking for people to join our product design team in a short period of time. We are seeking 1-2 people for minimum period each of 3 months.

People joining our team need to be willing to work hard and taking on significant responsibilities. As part of our team, you sometimes have to work in our cold workshop, and need to be open for an irregular schedule outside of the usual nine-to-five.

Are you the type of person that can function - innovate even - in a sometimes chaotic environment? Who loves to work hard and is a super creative problem solver when it comes to social- and product design? Then we want your creative brain and skillset here in ‘De Kwakel’!

Such an honour to be part of this amazing project and increable team!

By taking our commitment to local fabrication to the furniture scale, we are making sustainable products that are better for the planet and support local craft.

Our furniture design studio emerged with the Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA), a project so connected to place, landscape, and sustainability that it seemed unjust to fill it with imported furniture. Our aim was to apply the local fabrication approach that we have taken with our buildings for over a decade to products— believing that local materials and fabrication leads to both a better built result and a stronger local economy. In collaboration with Super Local and Niels Datema, our in-house team assembled a network of 85-plus furniture manufacturers, craft cooperatives, and artisans to make beautiful products in Rwanda that are tailored to Rwanda.
