Five days ago, something happened to me that I can’t forget.
A customer called me urgently to deliver his clothes because he had an emergency trip.
I rushed to his house, entered the sitting room, greeted a man I met there, and continued bringing out the clothes for confirmation.
As I was about to leave, the man called me gently:
“Please sit down for a few minutes.”
I sat.
He looked at me, smiled and said:
“I like you. And that white shirt you’re wearing… it’s clean, sharp and bright.
Don’t give up on yourself. Even when the journey becomes tough, don’t stop. Keep pushing.”
Those words entered me like medicine.
Then he shared a story with me.
He said he graduated with First Class in Accounting.
His younger sister also graduated with First Class in Mass Communication.
But guess what?
No job.
After applications everywhere… still no job.
Then he told his sister:
“Let’s go and learn a skill.”
He went to learn painting & paint production.
His sister went to learn hairdressing.
But after learning the skills
no startup capital.
Their father had only one plot of land.
He quietly took the documents
and sold it.
He used the money to relocate himself and his sister to Asaba, to stay with their cousin
a graduate who couldn’t find a job but was selling rice and stew by the roadside.
When their father found out, he placed curses on them:
“Both of you will suffer.
You will never succeed.
That land was my only hope.”
Still they kept pushing.
They got small shops.
They started from scratch.
They struggled.
At one point, he almost gave up because his course mates in Asaba mocked him calling names:
“First class painter!”
“First class paint seller!”
He said he cried some nights…
But his cousin always encouraged him:
“Keep going. Your time go reach.”
Then breakthrough came.
One day, he supplied paint to a man who loved the quality the of his paint.
That man connected him to the Commissioner of Works.
From there, he started getting contracts to supply paint
