From family legacy to a circular powerhouse,Star Mushrooms has grown under Indira & her daughter Nimesha to create innovative packaging solutions.

Through the European Union-funded CIRCULAR Programme, under the Global Gateway Strategy, which is implemented together with the Government of Sri Lanka, Expertise France, FAO Sri Lanka, and GIZ Sri Lanka and partly co-funded by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), they have been able to scale their business of turning agricultural waste into biodegradable packaging, creating jobs, empowering rural women, and fighting plastic pollution along the way.

This incredible opportunity has been a transformative journey, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Market Development Facility (MDF) team in Sri Lanka, especially Mr. Malik, Mr. Asitha, and the entire team, for their continuous support and encouragement.

Star Mushrooms honored to have represented at the UK Inward Buyer Mission, organized by ITC SheTrades ITC SheTrades Sri Lanka Hub, Sri Lanka Export Development Board, and the International Trade Centre. This program is a transformative platform for export-ready, women-led businesses in Sri Lanka, especially in the Apparel and Agri-Food sectors.

Engaging with UK buyers, sharing our sustainable practices, and representing Sri Lanka on a global stage was an inspiring experience. The factory visit was particularly impactful, showcasing our commitment to sustainability and the potential of Sri Lankan businesses in international markets.
