GSM MODEM. A GSM modem is a specialized type of modem which accepts a SIM card, and operates over a subscription to a mobile operator, just like a mobile phone. From the mobile operator perspective, a GSM modem looks just like a mobile phone. When a GSM modem is connected to a computer, this allows the computer to use the GSM modem to communicate over the mobile network. While these GSM modems are most frequently used to provide mobile internet connectivity, many of them can also be used for sending and receiving SMS and MMS messages. GSM Modem is similar with a 56k dial-up modem (using telephone line), that it transmits and receives data, or voice. However the main difference is that GSM Modem is wireless, while dial-up modem is wired. Some GSM Modems also has GPRS feature that allows tramission of data over TCP/IP (internet). To transmit data using GSM Modem, there are various methods that can be used, such as: • SMS • CSD or HSCSD • GPRS Even though a normal mobile phone can be used as GSM Modem, it is highly recommended that a special industrial grade terminal to be used as a GSM Modem due to its stability, and reliability. A GSM Modem can be used to built the following application: • SMS Gateway i.e. to send and receive SMS • telemetric i.e. to collect data from remote terminals • call-back service for VOIP • SMS application, SMS solution, or SMS programmed • machine to machine communication • sending SMS from PC • automating business process • vehicle tracking with cell broadcast feature or with integrated GPS terminal Quectel GC10 Quad-band GSM/GPRS Module:- Key Benifits 1) Quad-Band LCC GSM/GPRS module 2) Easier soldering process with LCC package 3) Power consumption as low as 1.3mA 4) Voice supported 5) QuecLocator 6) Embedded powerful Internet service protocols, 7) Multiple Sockets & IP addresses General Features Quad-band 850/900/1800/1900MHz GPRS Multi-slot Class Class 10 GPRS Mobile Station Class B Compliant to GSM Phase 2/2+ Class 4 (2W @ 850/900MHz) Class 1(1W @1800/1900MHz) Supply Voltage Range 3.3~4.6V 4.0V nominal Low Power Consumption 1.3mA @ DRX=5 1.1mA @ DRX=9 Operation Temperature -40 °C ~ +85 °C Dimensions 15.9 x 17.6 x 2.35mm Weight Approx. 1.3g Control via AT commands GSM 07.07, 07.05 and other enhanced AT Commands Specifications for Voice Speech Codec Modes Half Rate (HR) Full Rate (FR) Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) Echo Arithmetic Echo Cancellation Echo Suppression Noise Reduction Specifications for Data GPRS Class 10 85.6 kbps (Downlink) 42.8 kbps (Uplink) PBCCH support Coding Schemes CS 1, 2, 3, 4 USSD Protocols TCP/UDP/PPP Interfaces SIM/USIM 3V/1.8V UART 2 Analog Audio Channel 2 RTC Antenna PAD Specifications for SMS Point-to-point MO and MT Text and PDU Mode
