Subject: Urgent Attention to Trotro Fare Increases
Dear Honorable Minister,
As you continue to deliver exceptional results in your first 100 days in office, I would like to bring to your attention a pressing concern affecting residents, students, workers, and entrepreneurs in the Ashanti Region: the arbitrary increase in trotro fares.
The recent surge in fares has resulted in significant difficulties for commuters, rendering it challenging for them to afford transportation costs. For instance, the fare from Kejetia to Offinso has increased from GHC 10 to GHC 30 (Kejetia to Ahenkuro 15, Santasi to Kotwi Nkronza 10), a 233% increase. This is unsustainable for many individuals, particularly those earning monthly salaries ranging from GHC 700 to GHC 900.
The high transportation costs are draining nearly 90% of their earnings, leading to fatigue, decreased productivity, and frustration. It is imperative to address this issue promptly to ensure the well-being of our citizens.
I respectfully request that you consider collaborating with security agencies and trotro unions to establish a fare monitoring system and prevent arbitrary increases. Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your dedication to the Ashanti Region.
Sincerely,
Alhassan Abu
