How to Deodorize a Room

A smelly room is embarrassing, and it can prevent you from enjoying your living spaces the way you should. The secret to deodorizing a room is first getting rid of the source of the odor, which you can do with thorough cleaning. After that, it’s just a matter of absorbing any lingering odors and choosing your favorite air freshener to make everything smell great again. Follow the steps below:

1.Pick up and wash laundry. Laundry that’s piled up on the floor can start to take on a musty odor, and this can make the entire room smell. What's worse, wet laundry can be a breeding ground for mold. Collect laundry from all over the house, separate it into loads, and wash it .To ensure you kill mold and other bacteria on clothes, use a hot water to wash the clothes. Hang it to dry if the weather is nice.Always check care labels of your garments.

2.Wash the bedding. You spend about a third of your life in your bed, so it’s no wonder that sheets, blankets, and pillow cases can start to smell up a room after a while. To remove these odors, strip the pillow cases, sheets, and other washable linens and covers from the bed, and wash them. When the bedding is clean, dry it on a line before making the bed again.

3.Clean drains. Kitchen and bathroom sinks and drains can be home to mold, mildew, clogs, and other things that can cause bad smells in your house. To clean the drain, pour 1 cup (220 g) of baking soda down the drain. Pour 2 cups (470 ml) of white vinegar down the drain after the baking soda. Let the mixture foam and bubble for about 30 minutes.[2]When the baking soda and vinegar mixture has had time to bubble its way through the drain, rinse the drain with a kettle-full of boiling hot water.

4.Clean the toilets. Toilets are another household fixture that can house mold, mildew, bacteria, and other stink-sources. Pour 1 cup (235 ml) of vinegar into the bowl. Spray down the outside of the bowl and seat with vinegar as well. Let the vinegar stand for five minutes. Scrub the inside of the bowl with the toilet brush, and wipe the outside of the bowl and the seat with rags or paper towels. Flush the toilet to get rid of any particles that may have been scrubbed loose from the bowl.

5.Take out the garbage. The garbage is one of the worst offenders that cause stinky rooms, especially kitchen garbage that house food and other wet waste. When your kitchen smells, start by tying up the garbage and taking it outside or to the garage.

How to Clean an Artificial Christmas Tree

Many people choose to decorate their homes with artificial Christmas trees, avoiding the hassle, upkeep, and allergens of using a real tree. Unfortunately, artificial trees will accumulate dust from being on display in December or in storage for months at a time. If you find your tree to be too dirty and dusty to hang your decorations on, it might be time to give it a good cleaning.

1. Remove the tree from the box and securely assemble the base. Spread out the branches to attach to the tree as you go after cleaning each piece. You may wish to place a sheet on the floor around the tree to catch any falling debris.

2.Test your vacuum on the tree. Use an upholstery bristle brush attachment to test an area at the very base of the tree. Your vacuum should be able to safely clean the dirt off the branches without damaging the tree.
You can also use a hand vacuum if you want a weaker suction and don’t wish to deal with a long tube or cords.

3.Start vacuuming. Work from the top to the bottom, using your vacuum brush to gently suction dust off the branches and the trunk of the tree. Avoid vacuuming the tree into the hose or pulling out greenery.[2]
Don't allow any parts of the branches to be sucked into the hose. The broken pieces could damage your vacuum cleaner.

4.Prepare to wipe down the tree. Fill a bucket with mild dish soap and warm water, avoiding any harsh chemicals that can damage your tree. Unplug your tree if it has built-in lights. Use a soft dish or dust rag to clean the tree so the cloth won’t get tangled in the branches

5. Wipe the branches and the trunk. Dip your rag in the soapy water and wring well. Use the rag to gently clean the tree, working from top to bottom. Rinse the dust off your rag frequently to prevent spreading wet dust to other parts of the tree.
Replace the water as necessary.
If you are leaving suds, your towel is dripping, or you're leaving wet branches behind, you are not wringing the rag enough.
Allow the tree to dry thoroughly before plugging the lights back in.

6.Clean up the area around the tree. Vacuum the area around the tree to remove any dust that may have fallen on the floor. Put your cleaning supplies away.

7. Dump the dust out of the sheet. Fold the corners of your dust sheet in towards the center. This will form a sack to transport the sheet without spilling any contained dirt. Take the sheet out to the garbage and dump out the contents.

8.Decorate your tree. Now that your tree is clean, now is the time to put on your decorations. Test the tree to make sure all the branches are dry before plugging in the lights.

How to Remove Odor from Refrigerator Using Just 1 Ingredient:

Refrigerators have become an essential part of our daily life. Can you imagine life without one?
Where would you store perishable items like milk, fresh fruits and vegetables, or even your ready-to-eat meals? Where would you get ice for your soft drinks?

Without a refrigerator, you can say goodbye to that tall glass of homemade cold coffee or chilled ice tea.We use refrigerators to store all sorts of eatables and drinks. Many foods – especially fresh garlic and onions or dishes made with them – can leave behind a lingering odor.

Method 3: Lemon
Single-Step Method: Place lemon wedges all over your fridge

1.Cut a few lemons into quarters.

2.Place the lemon wedges on all the shelves and in all the compartments, even the ones in the refrigerator door.

3.Leave them there for 3 to 4 days to eliminate the bad odors.

4.To keep your fridge smelling fresh and fragrant, keep lemon wedges in it at all times. Replace the lemons as needed, say once a week.

HOW TO GET YOUR TILES TO SPARKLE!!!

INTRO:

Besides the usual sweeping and hoovering routines what can we do to brighten up those dull, lifeless tiles? Don’t fret, there are ways to get the best gleam back on your tiles. We have come up with some tried and tested old school tips to help you to achieve sparkling clean tiles.

1. Vinegar and Warm Water

Vinegar is great at tackling stains on wall tiles above cooking surfaces. Rinse the surface with cold water after you have finished rubbing any area with the vinegar.

2. Toothbrush and Toothpaste

I bet some of our readers spend time in the shower thinking of how to tackle the grim between the tiles. One creative solution may be to use what you already have at hand. Grab an old tooth brush and a little tooth paste to give the guilty, grim ridden tiles a good scrub. Once you have finished you can hose down any dirt that has fallen away from all of your muscle action.

3.Lemon Juice

This is another common household staple that can be used both as a cleaning product and a side with any of your favourite drinks. Simply squeeze some lemon onto a cloth, gently rub each tile to clear it of any residue and rinse with warm water. After you have used any acidic product wipe over the surface gently with a damp dusting cloth.

Tiles are resilient and have a natural protective layer against dirt so don’t worry about having to replace them every year. The simple tips above will help you make those tiles sparkle.

BEFORE YOU CLEAN YOUR SOFA!!!

It’s important that you choose a cleaning method suitable for the type of fabric on your sofa. Usually, fabric sofas come with tags that can help you out. Common indicators used on tags include:

•W -which means it’s washable and you can use water to clean it

•WS- which means you can use water or a solvent-based cleaner

•S- which means only a solvent-based cleaner may be used

•X-which means only cleaning with a vacuum cleaner or dry-brushing is allowed.

Make an informed choice of cleaning methods in order to better preserve your fabric sofa.

6 STEPS TO KEEP YOUR HOME SMELLING FRESH

1. Make a stove simmer.

I learned this from my crafty and cleaning obsessed mother. Simmer water in a small saucepan and add citrus slices and herbs, like lavender or mint. The heat permeates the sweet scent throughout your house — an easy trick that is as lovely for a party as it is for any day.

2. Clean your garbage disposal.
Notice a lingering stink? Might want to check the sink. "First try spritzing a dollop of lemon-scented dish soap down into the disposal, run the water, then turn it on. You can also run lemon or lime rinds through the disposal, followed by lots of water.

3. Place candles strategically.
Candles are an obvious way to make your home smell sweet, but some clever placement can increase their efficiency. "Anchor a few candles where you would least expect them to be — but don't light them. Try the linen closet, or anywhere fabrics might live and be able to absorb the scent. Not only do you get a nice surprise every time you open the door, but your linens will carry the aroma with them wherever you use them. Unstopables candles have a long-lasting scent and come in cool, modern designs.

4. Bring the outside in.
Indoor plants clean the air while beautifying your home. And many offer pleasant fragrances, too. Turner suggests geraniums, Arabian jasmine, eucalyptus, gardenias, corsage orchids, and Cuban oregano.

5. Soup up your windows
Clip a car deodorizer (like one from Febreze or Glade) close to your windows As the air blows through, the scent will waft throughout the room."

6. Turn on the oven.
Nothing beats the aroma of warm baked goods. "When I know I am having guests over, I will purposely have a baked good on the agenda. Something simple like cinnamon rolls or a banana bread fills the house with good old' fashioned yumminess."
