BTTA (Informal Waste Workers Association) – Newly Elected National Leadership
The Borla Taxi and Tricycle Association (BTTA), representing Informal Waste Workers across Ghana, is pleased to announce that new National Leadership has been duly elected following our recent national elections.
This new leadership has officially assumed office to guide the Association in strengthening collaboration with stakeholders, advancing sustainable waste management, and improving the livelihoods of informal waste workers nationwide.

We respectfully inform the general public, partner organizations, and all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) that any official engagements, communications, or partnerships with BTTA should henceforth be directed to the National Secretariat. This ensures proper coordination, transparency, and alignment with the Association’s new leadership mandate.

Today, we mourn the passing of Dr. Baba Adhav, a visionary who lifted waste Pickers/Collectors from the margins and restored dignity to countless lives.

On behalf of Ghana’s informal waste workers and the Borla Taxi and Tricycle Association (BTTA), we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of the SWaCH Cooperative, India.

His legacy of justice and humanity will continue to inspire generations across the world.

On Wednesday, March 27th, a significant collaboration took place between the BTTA (Informal Waste Workers) and the GA North Municipal Assembly in Ghana. This joint effort resulted in the arrest of several informal waste collectors who were operating illegally within the Ga North Municipality.

The BTTA, also known as the Informal Waste Workers, is a group of individuals who work in the informal sector of waste management. They are responsible for collecting and sorting various materials from households and businesses, which are then recycled or disposed of properly.
This group plays a crucial role in keeping the environment clean and contributing to the circular economy.
However, despite their valuable contribution, the activities of the informal waste collectors have often been viewed as illegal and unregulated.
This has led to clashes with local authorities and formal waste management companies. In an effort to address this issue, the BTTA, with the support of the Ga North Municipal Assembly, took decisive action to combat illegal waste collection within the municipality.

The collaboration between the BTTA and the GA North Municipal Assembly began with a series of meetings to discuss the issues at hand. These discussions were fruitful, and both parties agreed that the informal waste collection activities must be regulated to prevent conflicts and ensure that proper waste management practices are followed.

As a result, a joint operation was carried out on March 27th, which led to the arrest of several informal waste collectors who were operating without proper authorization within the Ga North Municipality. The arrested individuals were charged with illegal waste collection and will face the full force of the law.

This joint effort by the BTTA and the Ga North Municipal Assembly is a significant step towards regulating the informal waste collection sector. It sends a strong message that illegal waste collection activities will no longer be tolerated and that proper waste management procedures must be followed.

Furthermore, this collaboration also highlights the importance of working together towards sustainable waste management practices. The BTTA and the Ga North Municipal Assembly have set an excellent example of how different stakeholders can come together to address a pressing issue and create a positive impact.

In conclusion, the joint operation between the BTTA and the Ga North Municipal Assembly on March 27th was a milestone in regulating the informal waste collection sector in Ghana.
It demonstrates the power of collaboration and sets the foundation for a more organized and sustainable waste management system in the future.
