Clean your microwave in minutes with this simple, chemical-free technique..

There’s nothing worse than heating up a piece of pizza in the microwave and tasting last night’s chicken and rice and this morning’s oatmeal. If you open the door and smell pork roast from two days ago, it’s time to clean that thing and a paper towel with warm water isn’t enough. The inside of your microwave should be white. If it isn’t, you better get to cleaning. The process is incredibly easy and will only take about five minutes.
Step 1 - Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and add either a drizzle of dish soap or a tablespoon of white vinegar, whichever you have handy.

Step 2 - Let it cook for about two minutes depending on how strong your microwave is. You want it to get nice and steamy but not boil over.

Step 3 - Keep the door closed and let the steam do its work for about three minutes.

Step 4 - Carefully remove the bowl, because it’s going to be hot.

Step 5 - Wipe off all the sides with a paper towel, and clean the plate like a normal plate.

If you don’t have dish soap or vinegar, cut a lemon in half, put it in a bowl full of water, and cook it for five minutes. This option is the most natural and the warm lemon makes your kitchen smell nice for a few hours.

How to Get Rid of Shoe Odor.

Are you embarrassed to remove your shoes in front of others? Do you wish to throw away your favorite pair of shoes due to the foul smell it transmits? If the answer is yes, the good news is that you do not need to get embarrassed about the unpleasant smell that comes from your shoes. Almost everyone faces the problem of stinky shoes once or twice in a lifetime.
If you have noticed that your shoes smell bad, it’s likely that you want to get rid of the odor as quickly as possible. But before that you need to first understand that reason behind the stinky smell coming from your shoes.

Causes for smelly shoes.

Feet often sweat when they are locked inside a shoe for hours at a time. Due to excessive sweating it becomes an ideal place for bacteria to reside that cause the shoes to emit an unpleasant odor. Another reason behind smelly shoes is the materials used for making shoes. Shoes are usually made from synthetic material and have rubber soles and plastic innersoles. These plastic innersoles are the main culprits behind unpleasant stinky shoes.

Simple ways to get rid of the unpleasant shoe odor.

The bad smell coming from shoes can be overwhelming and make you wish to throw them away as soon as possible. Well, there is no need to spend money on buying new shoes as there are many simple and easy ways to get rid of the unpleasant odor.
• To get rid of the unpleasant smell coming from your good pair of shoes, you can stuff the shoes with newspaper. Do this at night and next morning you will find ‘stink-free’ shoes.
• When the shoes are not in use, place a dryer sheet in each one. This way whenever you need to use the shoes you will not be disheartened with the unpleasant smell.
• Another simple solution to get rid of the smell coming from your shoes is to throw the shoes in the washer. Keep the shoes to dry in direct sunlight and when dry, double bag them and put them in the freezer overnight. This will kill the bacteria that cause the odor. The next morning, remove the bag from the freezer and place it in the sun, to dry.
• To get rid of smelly shoes you can use insoles made from cedar material. Such kind of insoles will tackle the cause of the problem and soon there will be no smell.
• The most obvious way to get rid of smelly shoes would be to wash them thoroughly. Using a soapy detergent and bleach, wash the shoes inside out. Thereafter, keep them under the sun, to let dry them well. Don’t wear them until they are completely dry.
• You can also use fabric conditioner sheets available in the market to get rid of smelly shoes. All you need to do is place a sheet in each of the shoes and keep them for the night. The next morning, you would be possessing nice-scented shoes.
• Though this may sound strange, but cat litter has proved effective in getting rid of shoe smell. For this, collect fresh, unused cat litter in a pair of old sock and seal its mouth. Now, put the socks inside your smelly shoes and leave overnight. The litter, a great deodorizer, would absorb all the foul smell, making your shoe perfectly ready to wear.
• Pour some rubbing alcohol in a cotton ball and wipe the insides of your shoes with the same. Now, leave them undisturbed for a while. The foul smell is sure to fade away.
• If your shoes are not washable, wipe out the interior with a cotton ball dipped in alcohol to kill bacteria.
• If your shoes are damp, you may be able to microwave them for 90 seconds to kill the bacteria.

Natural ways to get rid of the unpleasant shoe odor.

Fortunately, there are multiple natural ways for smelly shoes using products you may already have at home. Some of the options are:
1. Baking soda has proven to be an effective odor removing agent. Sprinkle some baking soda in your shoes and let it stay there overnight. The next day, just shake off the soda from the shoes, before wearing them. If this is a recurring problem, you may need to repeat this process every time you wear them.
2. To get the smell out of shoes, make a mixture of baking soda, baking powder, and cornstarch taken in equal amount. Put the mixture in a pair of cotton socks and stick the socks in the shoes overnight.
3. Another effective way to get rid of foul smelling shoes would be to use orange peel. Put one or two orange peels in the shoes and leave them overnight. Next morning your shoes will smell great.
4. Fill each shoe with boiling water and add a small amount of bleach. Let this set for a few minutes. When the water has cooled, dump out the water and wash your shoes. The bleach will kill the bacteria, thus removing the odor.
5. Add one cup of vinegar to each shoe. This will cause bubbling and fizzing. Let this set and work in your shoes for about 15 minutes. Remove the mixture from the shoes, rinse, and wash following the instructions above.
6. White vinegar can also neutralize odors and remove bacteria inside of your shoes. In a small spray bottle, mix equal parts vinegar and water and spray the inside of the shoe thoroughly. Let your shoes dry for a few minutes before putting your feet in them for a fresh feeling that will last for hours.
7. Cut off the ends of an old pair of socks. Fill each piece with about half cup of coffee grounds and tie off the end. Place in shoes overnight to absorb odor.

Choose your shoes wisely.

Often the reason behind smelly shoes is wearing a wrong kind of shoes. Wearing tennis shoes, leather shoes, or suede footwear with limited ventilation often makes the shoes smelly. Choose a shoe that offers proper ventilation.
At the same time you need to replace your shoes when you know that you need new ones will also reduce shoe odor. When your shoes are a few years old and you can’t do anything to get rid of the smell, even if you’d tried the remedies above, it’s time to simply invest in a new pair. Also try to alternate between pairs of shoes to give them a chance to dry out and air out in between wearing. This way there will be a less of a chance that either pair of shoes will develop an offensive odor that is beyond repair.

Take care of your feet.

After you have eliminated the odor from your shoes, prevent it from returning by keeping your feet clean and wearing socks as often as possible. Try to wear clean leather shoes and cotton socks and change shoes daily. Make sure to wash your feet once but preferably twice a day with an antibacterial soap and use a good quality foot spray at night. Also buy two pair of shoes for wearing on alternate days. To know about how to remove foot odor you can check our previous articles on

Final Words.

To sum up, removing shoe smell is easy if you are ready to put in some efforts and a bit of care. Just follow the above mentioned tips and suggestions and nothing can stop you from wearing favorite pair of shoes for years to come.

How to clean the inside of your fridge in 30 minutes or less...

Last week, I was getting ready for my mother to come for a visit. So naturally, I had to clean out my fridge! I used the method she taught me, and 20 minutes later my fridge was mom-worthy clean. Here's how I do it:

Empty the Fridge

You can do this all at once or in sections. I prefer to do it all at once. The thought of the food sitting out helps me do everything faster.

Set aside two areas for setting items down: one area for things that need to be cleaned out (outdated leftovers in tupperware, for example) and another area for items that need to be put back into the fridge. Anything that needs to be discarded that's not in a container you want to keep goes straight into the trash, of course.

Clean Contents

If your fridge is less than pristine, chances are that your milk carton and olive jar aren't squeaky clean either. With a damp rag, wipe the bottoms of items and also clean any drips on the sides.

If lid areas need a little TLC, tackle those too. You want everything you return to the fridge to be clean so you're not spreading messes around. You can clean out leftovers containers now, or wait until you're done with the fridge.

Clean the Inside of the Fridge

If you can remove shelves and drawers, do it. Spray the inside of the fridge with a solution of vinegar and water, concentrating on soiled areas and let it soak in.

Wash the removed shelves and drawers with warm soapy water and set them aside to dry. Head back to the fridge and wipe everything down with a rag.

Return Contents

Dry shelves and drawers and return them to the fridge. Next, place all newly cleaned items back in the fridge in their respective areas. (I have my fridge sections labelled to help keep items where they belong, but that's just me.)

Step back and admire your sparkling fridge!

Part 1 of 2: Cleaning the Refrigerator
Clean a Refrigerator Step 1.jpg
1
Take all your food out of the fridge. Place it on a table or counter so the refrigerator is completely emptied out. You'll want to have empty space so that you can survey the damage.

Clean a Refrigerator Step 2.jpg
2
Throw out any aged, moldy or inedible food, bagging securely to prevent leakage or mold distribution. The yearly or quarterly refrigerator clean often alerts us to items we've completely forgotten about, and which have sadly lost their inevitable fight with Time. 'Tis life. Discard hastily or restock at your own risk.

Don't be bashful about throwing away the items that you never use. Those pickles that have been sitting in the back of the fridge before grandma got her dentures probably got to go, unless you accidentally want to invite disaster.

Clean a Refrigerator Step 3.jpg
3
Take out any shelving, drawers (e.g. crispers), or other removable surface areas from the refrigerator. Sticking your head into the belly of the refrigerator in order to clean it isn't very pleasant, and it sure isn't that effective. In order to get the job done quicker, you'll probably want to remove shelving and the like and place it near the kitchen sink, where it will be much easier to clean.

Clean a Refrigerator Step 4.jpg
4
Wash the shelving, drawers, and other surfaces by hand. Most of what you took out of your fridge either won't fit or shouldn't be placed in a dishwasher. Instead, lather up some suds, get a nice brush or sponge to scrub with, and start going at the removable items from your fridge. This is where the rubber meets the road.

Never wash a cold glass shelf with hot water. The sudden temperature change could shatter the glass. Instead, use cold water or remove the shelf and let it come up to room temperature before washing it.

For heavy-duty spills and/or stains, don't be afraid to use the power of hot water and ammonia. Dilute a little bit of ammonia in hot water (1:5 ratio should be plenty) and let the item(s) soak before scrubbing.

Be sure to let the shelving, grill, etc. dry out completely on a drying rack before inserting back into the refrigerator.

Clean a Refrigerator Step 5.jpg
5
Wipe the inside of the refrigerator with your preferred cleaning solution. Attack any big or stubborn stains and hit all the remaining surfaces with a clean cloth or sponge.

You probably don't want to use soap or a chemical cleaner on the inside of the fridge, as food will absorb the smell. Instead, use one of the following natural cleaning solutions:
2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1 quart hot water[1]
1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 parts hot water

For really stubborn stains or buildups, try using a dab of white toothpaste. It serves as an abrasive cleanser and it smells mighty fine to boot.[2]

Clean a Refrigerator Step 6.jpg
6
Make sure to clean the fridge doors. If your refrigerator door has shelving space and is regularly used, make sure to hit that area too, either with a chemical cleaner or a gentler one (explanation above).

Clean a Refrigerator Step 7.jpg
7
Dry off shelving before putting it back in its home in the refrigerator. With a clean cloth, wipe off any excess water from your removable shelving and place it back in the refrigerator.

Clean a Refrigerator Step 8.jpg
8
Reintroduce the food into the refrigerator. Wipe off any jars, bottles, or tupperware and place them back into the refrigerator. Double-check the expiration dates on any perishable items before placing them back.

Part 2 of 2: Keeping Your Refrigerator Clean and Tidy

Clean a Refrigerator Step 9.jpg
1
Do a seasonal (quarterly) pass through your refrigerator to keep it smelling fresh and looking good. Every three months, remove most or all of your food from the fridge and wipe all the surfaces with a baking soda or vinegar solution. Regular maintenance will save you time and energy in the future.

This almost goes without saying, but if you notice a spill or stain in the fridge, try to clean it up quickly and remove the source of the stain. Spills or stains that aren't cleaned quickly can set and become harder to remove in the future.

Clean a Refrigerator Step 10.jpg
2
Use a homemade air freshener to absorb unpleasant smells and keep your fridge odor-free. Before food goes bad, and starts coating the inside of your fridge with regular blasts of bad odors, it's time to act. Here's what you can equip your fridge with to combat these smells:
A clean sock filled with activated charcoal — from an aquarium store, not from your bbq briquettes. The charcoal absorbs bad odors for up to three months.

An opened box of baking soda. Baking soda is another expert odor absorber.[3] Most baking soda packages say you should change your baking soda out every 30 days, but you can probably get away with 60 to 90 days of use before exchanging.

Freshly ground coffee, placed in a small dish at the back of the fridge, also works very well at absorbing odors.

Unscented chlorophyll cat litter is yet another odor buster. 1/2" kitty litter in a shallow pan at the back of the refrigerator should eliminate most offending smells.

Clean a Refrigerator Step 11.jpg
3
Scent your fridge to give it a subtle fragrance. This may not be for everyone, but some people might enjoy the subtle hint of vanilla, for example, when they open their refrigerator. The operating word in this whole step is "subtle." You probably don't want any fragrance to be overwhelming upon opening of the fridge.

Like cologne or perfume, a nice "afterthought" is much more pleasant, especially coupled with food:
Sprinkle a little vanilla extract, tea tree oil, or essence of lavender, lemon, or even bergamot in a cotton ball and place the cotton ball in a small dish at the back of the fridge. Exchange every couple of weeks.

Clean a Refrigerator Step 12.jpg
4
Crumple a piece of a brown paper bag into a ball and place it alongside fruits and veggies in the crisper for odor protection. A crumpled paper bag works wonders at removing smells in the crisper.

Getting Stains Off White Tile.

A stain can ruin the clean, crisp look of a white tile floor or wall. Tiles, usually made of ceramic, don't always wipe clean easily.

Mineral deposits, soap scum, rust or food may leave behind stains, especially if they aren't removed immediately.

Most stains on tile clean up completely with the right cleaning solution and a bit of scrubbing.

Grime Removal

Grime, whether from soil tracked onto floor tiles or the scum buildup on a bathroom tile wall, can mask deeper stains. You must remove all surface dirt before you begin any stain removal.

A commercial tub and tile cleaner usually removes light grime, although some scrubbing with a nonabrasive pad is usually necessary.

Heavy soap scum wipes off with a mixture of 1 tablespoon of trisodium phosphate mixed with 1 gallon of hot water. Completely rinse away all cleaner residue before tackling deeper stains.

Water Scale Stains

Minerals in the water cause scale stains. These usually appear white, but they may also develop a gray dingy color or become orange-brown from iron in the water.

Trisodium phosphate may remove the stains, but it often won't pe*****te the scale.

Sprinkling the scale with baking soda and then adding vinegar helps break it down. The baking soda will bubble at first.

Leave the mixture on the tile for 15 minutes, then scrub it away with the nonabrasive sponge.

Dark Stains

Red or brown stains, caused by iron rust, usually lift from the tile if you scrub them with a paste made of equal parts borax and lemon juice.

A mild scouring powder may also remove the stains, but take care so you don't scratch the tile. Mix 1 part ammonia with 1 part water and scrubbing the stain removes blue or blue-green copper stains. Never mix ammonia with bleach, though, since it produces a toxic gas.

Remove brown, black and other stains with a paste made from equal parts cream of tartar and peroxide.

Stained Grout

Tile often repels stains, so the stain may actually appear on the more porous grout between tiles. An oxygenated bleach product gets rid of these stains without damaging the grout or tiles. It may also remove more stubborn stains on the tiles themselves.

Combine 4 to 8 tablespoons of the bleach powder with 1 gallon of cool water. Scrub the stains with the solution, then allow it to stand for about 30 minutes before rinsing it away.

For stubborn stains, make a paste with the bleach powder and water and let it sit on the stain for 30 minutes before scrubbing.

How to Remove Yellowed Stains from Tile Flooring.

You Will Need

Steps to Clean the Floor

Additional Tips and Advice

Most commercial tile flooring is a thick, hard vinyl tile. The vinyl is durable and can tolerate harsher cleaning methods. There are several causes for yellowing on the tile floor.

The first is a natural reaction that happens when sunlight reacts with vinyl. The second is discoloration of the wax coating that is on top of the tile. To remove these stains and discoloration, use the method below.

You Will Need:

Sponge mop
Scrubber
Large bucket
Hot water
Ammonia
Powder dishwasher soap
Soft cloths or old towels
Floor wax
Steps to Clean the Floor:

Fill a bucket with one gallon of hot water.
Add one cup of ammonia and ½ cup of dishwasher powder to the water.

Mix until it is well combined and the dishwasher powder has dissolved.

Turn on your bathroom exhaust fan and if possible open some windows or set up some fans to ventilate the work space.

Now we will work in small sections of the floor to clean and remove the stains.

Use the mop to sponge a good amount of the liquid onto the surface. If it puddles, that’s fine, you want plenty to work with.

Scrub the area gently with a scrubber. There are mops with scrubbers on the edge that work well for this.

Mop up the remaining liquid.

Repeat until all sections of the floor have been stripped and cleaned.

Once the floor is cleaned to your satisfaction, mop up any remaining liquid.

Dry the floor with old towels or soft cloths.
Once the floor is completely dry, apply a fresh coat of floor wax.

Additional Tips and Advice

There are commercial wax st*****rs available as well that will remove the existing wax. They are readily available from hardware, home improvement and flooring stores.

If the wax stripping and cleaning does not remove the stains, then it may be a chemical reaction that is occurring in the tile itself.

This may not be possible to remove and may require replacing the tiles.

How To Clean Your Microwave Naturally With Just a Lemon......

We get a two-fer deal with this one: not only is it possible to get a squeaky-clean microwave without using harsh chemicals in a spot where we also heat our food, but this is also hands down the easiest way to clean a microwave. That's right. If you've been avoiding cleaning your microwave, this trick is going to make you very happy.

It's a simple idea, really: Just squeeze some lemon juice into water, drop the rinds into the water, and microwave. As the liquid boils, it condenses on the sides of the microwave, loosening gunk and dissolving food splatters. The lemon juice is a natural cleaning agent, and so all you have to do is use a clean towel to wipe everything clean.

What You Need
Materials
1 lemon
Small microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup
Clean, dry dishtowel or cleaning rag

Equipment
Microwave

Instructions
Pour water in the bowl: Measure about a half cup of water into the bowl.
Squeeze the lemon: Slice the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the water. Drop the lemon halves into the bowl.
Microwave for 3 minutes: Place the bowl in the microwave. Microwave on high power for 3 minutes so the liquid comes to a boil.
Let stand for 5 minutes: Do not open the microwave door. The steam trapped inside will help loosen food gunk. Let stand for 5 minutes.
Wipe the microwave clean: Open the door and carefully remove the bowl with the lemons. If your microwave has a turntable, lift it out and wipe it clean. Wipe the inside of the microwave clean starting with the ceiling and the sides. Finish with the floor, sweeping any crumbs into your hand. Don't forget the door!
Cleaning stubborn spots: If you come across stubborn spots that won't easily wipe away, dip the corner of your dishtowel in the lemon-water and scrub until the spot comes away.

How to Clean an Iron.

1 Prepare an ironing board by placing a paper towel or a cotton towel on it. Any grime, dirt, or over residue that's currently on your clothes iron will eventually smudge off onto your towel, so be sure to choose a used one that you won't miss.

2 Sprinkle one tablespoon of salt onto the surface of the towel. The coarser the salt, the better, as it usually has more surface area. Try working with sea salt, for example.

3 Plug the iron in and heat it to the highest setting. Turn off steam completely.

4 Iron the surface with salt by pressing gently. The dirt will stick to the salt, leaving the iron surface sparkling clean. Once you've gone over the salt a couple times — enough to remove any dirt from the iron — you should be good to go.

Salt

Polish tarnished copper with this natural solution. Fill a 16-ounce spray bottle with white vinegar and 3 tablespoons of salt. Spray onto the copper, let sit briefly, then rub clean.

Coffee Grounds

Use your morning pick-me-up to eliminate odors in the fridge. Simply place coffee grounds, new or used, in a bowl on a shelf. Replace them every two months for a fresh, slightly caffeinated smell.

White Vinegar

Keep your dishwasher extra clean with white vinegar. Pour ½ cup into the detergent cups and run the empty machine for a complete cycle. You can also use a few tablespoons of powdered laundry bleach, Tang or lemon-flavored Kool-Aid (it must be lemon) for the same results.

Ice Cubes

It won't be a pretty sound, tossing ice cubes into the garbage disposal break sup grease and keeps it clean. Every few weeks, toss in a handful of cubes, turn on the disposal and run cold water. Add some orange, lemon or lime peels to ward off odors.

Mouthwash

The same product that kills bad-breath germs also zaps the gunk beneath your feet. Add a capful of mouthwash to a gallon of water and mop vinyl or tile—but not wood—floors with the mixture.
