It’s a question we’re asked quite often — and the answer is:

It depends on your home, your lifestyle and how much help you want.

For some households, a weekly clean works best.

If you have a busy family home, pets, lots of footfall, children at school, demanding jobs or simply prefer your home to stay consistently clean throughout the week, weekly cleaning can make a real difference.

💚 IT'S FRIDAY. WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS WEEKEND?

Our Merry Maids teams are out and about across York today, helping our clients get their homes ready for the weekend.

And I suspect they're looking forward to finishing work and enjoying their own weekends too! 😊

Which got me thinking…

For most of us, our free time is precious.

There are walks to take, friends to see, family to spend time with, gardens to enjoy, places to visit — or perhaps just a cup of tea, a good book and absolutely nothing planned.

Cleaning the bathroom probably isn't high on the list. 🧹

That's one of the reasons our clients use Merry Maids.

Some are busy working families. Some are retired. Some live alone. Some need a little help because their circumstances have changed. Others are perfectly capable of doing the cleaning themselves — they've simply decided they'd rather spend their time doing something else.

September always seems to arrive rather suddenly.

The Bank Holiday is behind us, some of York's schools are already back, others will follow shortly, and after the stop-start weeks of summer holidays, life is beginning to settle back into its usual routine.

And perhaps there's one job you'd rather not put back into yours…

💚 A quiet Friday morning in York…

The roads seem a little quieter than usual this morning, the car parks are emptier and, judging by the rain outside, summer appears to have taken the Bank Holiday weekend off too! ☔

Hopefully that means lots of people have managed to turn this weekend into a slightly longer break.

So, from all of us at Merry Maids of York, we simply wanted to wish everyone a safe, relaxing and very happy Bank Holiday weekend.

Whether you're heading away, spending time with family and friends, getting out and about around York, or just enjoying a few quiet days at home, we hope you get the chance to switch off and enjoy it.

Our own team has been growing over the last few weeks. New colleagues are settling in really well, training is progressing nicely and it's good to see the team coming back together again.

💚 Sometimes Being the Boss Means Rolling Up Your Sleeves...

It's been a slightly different week at Merry Maids of York.

With a few gaps in the team, I've swapped quite a lot of time behind the desk for cleaning products, vacuum cleaners and getting back out into our clients' homes.

And do you know what?

It's been good to get stuck in.

Running a locally owned cleaning business isn't just about organising schedules, answering emails and managing the business. Ultimately, it's about making sure we deliver the service our clients rely on.

So when an extra pair of hands is needed, mine are available too!

I've also been reminded just how physically demanding professional cleaning can be and how much care goes into doing the job properly. I have enormous respect for our team and the work they do day after day.

💚 Growing the Merry Maids team

There's been something else happening behind the scenes this week too.

Sharon, our Team Leader, and I have been working with two new members of the team, helping them learn not simply "what" we clean, but "how we expect a Merry Maids clean to be carried out". The training was an excellent refresher for me too!!!

Training matters to us.

It's about attention to detail, working safely, respecting someone's home, understanding what matters to each client and delivering the consistent professional standards people expect from Merry Maids.

Nobody simply gets handed some cleaning products and sent through a client's front door.

We want our new team members to understand the responsibility that comes with being trusted in someone's home.

To our clients who have been patient and understanding while we've been juggling schedules, training new people and keeping everything moving:

Growing a team occasionally brings a few challenges, but we're doing it because we want to build the capacity to help more households across York.

TEMPORARY CLEANING STAFF NEEDED – YORK

We’re looking for 2 reliable people to join the Merry Maids of York team on a temporary basis for the next 2 weeks.

Hours: 8.30am – 2.30pm
Monday to Friday
Pay: £12.75 per hour
Location: York and surrounding area
Start: As soon as possible

This could be ideal if you’re between jobs, a student looking for some extra work, or simply available for the next couple of weeks.

You’ll be working as part of our established team providing domestic cleaning services to our customers.

What we provide:

Employed temporary position
Uniform
All cleaning equipment and materials
Training and support
No evening or weekend work

You don’t need professional cleaning experience, but you do need to be reliable, hardworking and comfortable working as part of a team.

Non-drivers are welcome to apply.

There may also be an opportunity for longer-term work for the right person if both sides are interested.
