We ignored this one number in our business and it hurt.

When we first started, we were so focused on serving everyone...
…we ignored our profit margins.

Some months we were busy but barely breaking even.
It took one late payment from a big job for us to realise:
Cash flow isn’t just “finance stuff.” It’s survival.

Lesson:
🧠 You can’t scale what doesn’t sustain you.
📈 Track margins, cash flow, and get help early if you need it.

We still love serving but we learned how to serve smart.

👉 Send a short, personalised message before AND after the job.

📩 Before:
“Looking forward to our visit at 10am. Let me know if you need anything beforehand.”
📩 After:
“All done! Let me know if there’s anything you'd like us to revisit. Always happy to help.”

If we had to start over today, we’d focus on what actually moves the needle:

🔹 Get crystal clear on **who** we serve
🔹 Set our **minimum rate** and stick to it
🔹 Build a simple online presence (website + 1 platform)
🔹 **Reach out** to our network daily
🔹 Share our work even if only 5 people see it

👉 Most people wait until they *look* ready.
But truth is: **Action creates momentum.**

Most people wait too long to think about branding.
We did too.

1. Get a simple logo + tagline that reflects my values, not trends
2. Share photos of the real work no filters
3. Tell stories about our clients, not just about us
4. Post at 5 contents a day to show what we stand for
Let people feel what it’s like to work with us

You don’t need a big budget. You need clear identity and real stories.

Branding isn’t about standing out. It’s about showing up consistently as yourself.

🛑 We made this mistake early in my business and it cost us.

In the beginning we thought being available 24/7 made us more valuable.

We said yes to everything.
✅ Late-night jobs
✅ Last-minute requests
✅ Weekend calls

At first, we thought we were building loyalty. But what we were really building… was burnout.

When you don’t value your own boundaries, neither will your clients.
Here’s what we nearly lost trying to be “always on”:
🔋 Our health (stress doesn’t sleep)
🎯 Our focus (saying yes to everything means doing nothing well)
✨ Our passion
🧠 Our creativity (you can’t innovate when you’re drained)
💬 Our reputation (when you’re stretched too thin, quality slips)

What we learned:
⚠️ Saying “yes” to everything makes your service feel desperate, not elite.
✅ Boundaries don’t push good clients away, they attract the right ones.

Teach people how to treat your business. Respect starts with you.
