Afternoon all, just a quick check in with you all.
This week many of you have been aware that we have been putting down the wash mitts and taking a few days off. In fact put of 17 jobs booked this week we have only been able to complete 5! ๐ฌ
Why is that we hear you ask? Well weโd love to say itโs just so we can go and relax down the beach with an ice cream, however itโs actually not quite as fun as that! ๐

So whilst this hot humid weather is absolutely fantastic for working on your sun tan (we must admit we adore the sunshine), unfortunately itโs an absolute nightmare for valeting vehicles!
Air temperature by 10am each morning has been upwards of 35c this week, that means no works completed after then for us here.
Not only do the high temperatures we are seeing make us use approximately 50% more water when washing your vehicle, but it also has a massive detrimental effect on the products/chemicals we use.
A lot of our products including wheel cleaners, pre washes and all purpose cleaners to name just a few, all require a dwell time to work effectively. When we are seeing temperatures as high as we have this week, that makes safe dwell times practically non existent!
This doesnโt only mean the chemical is not able to do its job, but it also means that there is an increased risk of damage to your vehicle.
Evaporating chemicals can leave long term damage to paintwork, glass and alloy wheels. Stubborn water marks, shampoo streaks and potential paintwork etching is not something we ever want to risk inflicting to anybodyโs vehicle.
Alongside this you also have the issue of the speed of which bodywork heats up on a car. A vehicle in direct sunlight can rapidly see surface temperatures reach over 100c. This has for years been seen by the videos online of people boiling eggs on their car bonnets! ๐ฅ
This morning after our van had been parked inside a garage over night, we pulled it out into the sunshine and got the Infrared Thermometer out to measure the temperature of the bonnet. Within an hour of the vehicle being outside, at 8am the panel was reading a blistering 78.2c!! (See photo below).
Now factor in the air temperature, any chemicals that didnโt manage to evaporate before they hit the panel would then be at a significantly heightened risk of causing damage to the bodywork.
We have also found that vehicles parked in shady areas can still show temperatures as high as 50c!
So a little long winded we admit, but thatโs the exact reason we have taken the decision to opt for a few days out of the business this week and instead been out exercising the dogs at 4.30am each morning ๐
