Hundreds of pupils use this school hall floor every day… but years of wear had left it looking tired and dull.

After a full sanding and restoration process, the timber has been brought back to life, removing surface wear and restoring its natural appearance.

The result is a cleaner, brighter floor that’s protected and ready for years of daily use.

Would you have guessed this floor could look this good again?

“This school floor had years of wear written all over it…”

Heavy traffic, worn finishes and deep surface scratching had left this wood floor in a tired condition — but even at this stage, you can already see the transformation starting to happen.

We’re currently carrying out a full sanding and restoration project at a school in Burnley, carefully removing the old damaged finish to reveal the natural timber underneath.

One of the most satisfying parts of floor restoration is seeing the clean, fresh wood emerge during the sanding process. It’s a reminder that many floors which look beyond saving can often be fully restored rather than replaced.

Still a work in progress, but the difference already speaks for itself.

“This floor was hiding under layers of paint and bitumen…”

What started as a tired old pine floor in Hebden Bridge turned into one of the most rewarding restorations we’ve completed recently.

Years of paint, heavy coatings and bitumen had completely masked the natural character of the timber. After a full professional sand, detailed gap cleaning, staining and finishing with a durable satin lacquer, the original pine grain finally came back to life.

The contrast between the before and after is exactly why restoration is often a far better option than replacement.

A lot of people assume floors in this condition are beyond saving — but with the right process and patience, transformations like this are possible.

Most people would assume this worktop needed replacing…

Underneath the staining, peeling finish and years of wear was a solid pine worktop with plenty of life left in it. We sanded the surface right back to bare wood to remove the damaged coating and reveal the natural grain underneath.

Finished with two coats of Osmo Top Oil for a durable, food-safe finish that completely transformed the look of the kitchen.

Completed recently in Hebden Bridge.

“This engineered oak floor looked completely worn out…”

Years of use had left the finish dull, tired and uneven, hiding the natural character of the wood underneath.

We carefully sanded back the old finish, refined the surface and re-oiled the floor using Rubio Monocoat in Walnut to completely revive the colour and grain.

The final buffing stage in this photo helps work the oil evenly into the floor, giving it a rich, durable finish with a natural look homeowners love.

One of the biggest misconceptions with engineered flooring is that it can’t be restored — but with the correct sanding process, many engineered floors can be brought back to life beautifully.

This one now has a completely refreshed look without the cost of replacement.

“You don’t always need to replace a tired kitchen worktop…”

This pine worktop in Hebden Bridge had years of wear, staining and old finish build-up that had completely dulled the timber.

Using dust-controlled sanding equipment, we carefully removed the damaged surface layer to reveal the fresh natural wood underneath — a huge difference already, even before finishing products are applied.

A lot of homeowners don’t realise how much life can be brought back into solid wood surfaces with proper sanding and refinishing rather than replacing them altogether.

The grain and character hidden underneath old coatings is often the best part of the transformation.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about bringing a tired parquet floor back to life ✨

This floor came to us worn, patchy in colour, and lacking any real finish. Years of use had taken their toll, leaving it dull and uneven.

After a full parquet floor sanding and careful refinishing process, you can see the difference — a smooth, consistent surface with the natural character of the wood restored.

Parquet floors are built to last, but they do need the right care to look their best again.

If your floor is starting to look uneven or worn, it’s often not as far gone as it seems.

Most people would replace this worktop… but it didn’t need it.

This wooden kitchen worktop had seen better days — worn patches, staining, and a tired finish from years of daily use.

Instead of replacing it, we brought it back to life.

We started with a full sand to remove the old, damaged surface and even out the colour. Once back to clean wood, we carefully refined the finish before applying a fresh oil.

The result is a rich, natural look that not only looks better but is properly protected for everyday use.

A great example of how restoration can completely transform a space without the cost of replacement.

POV: you thought this floor needed replacing…

This dark, worn floor had lost its life completely — heavy scratches, dull patches and an uneven finish throughout.

Once we started sanding, you can see the real transformation happen instantly. The original wood underneath was still in great condition — it just needed the right process to bring it back.

We removed the old coating, refined the surface, and finished it to enhance the natural tones of the wood rather than hiding them.

The result is a clean, warm finish that completely changes the feel of the space.

A perfect example of why restoration is often a better option than replacement.

Would you have kept the darker look or gone back to natural?

You never really know what’s hiding under old carpets…

These 1920s pine floorboards in Middleton, Manchester had spent decades hidden away. When the carpet came up, the boards underneath were buried under around 100 years of dirt, paint splashes and general grime.

At first glance they looked tired and heavily marked — but solid old pine like this is often well worth restoring.

We began by sanding the floor back to clean bare wood using our Lagler Hummel and Lagler Flip, removing all the old contamination and bringing the natural grain back to life.
The floor was then refined using the Bona Flexisand and Mirka Deros to achieve a smooth, even surface ready for finishing.

To give the floor more depth and character, we applied Morrells Light Fast Jacobean stain, followed by Berger Seidle Greenstar 2K semi-gloss lacquer for a durable and long-lasting finish.

The result is a floor that still has all the character of the original 1920s boards — but now looks completely revived.

Old floors like this often just need the right process to bring them back.

Would you restore original boards like these, or replace them?
