Why does rain smell so good? 👃👃👃

That earthy “after rain” scent has a name: Petrichor

It’s largely caused by a compound called geosmin, produced by soil-dwelling bacteria. When rain hits dry ground, tiny aerosols release this molecule into the air—and your nose picks it up at incredibly low concentrations.

Fun fact: humans are extremely sensitive to geosmin, which is why that “fresh rain” smell is so instantly recognizable.

Bananas contain potassium, an important mineral our bodies need for muscles, nerves, and heart function. ❤️

A tiny portion of that potassium is a natural radioactive form called Potassium-40 (K-40).

This means bananas give off a very small amount of radiation—but it’s so tiny that it’s harmless. In fact, many everyday foods like potatoes, avocados, spinach, and even Brazil nuts contain natural radiation too! 🥔🥑🥬

Scientists even jokingly use something called the “Banana Equivalent Dose” to compare very small amounts of radiation. 🍌📏

So yes, bananas are radioactive…
…but they’re still one of the healthiest snacks you can eat! 😄

🌱 Myth: If it's natural, it must be safe.

Not always!

🍄 Some mushrooms are natural... and poisonous.

Being natural doesn't automatically mean something is safe, just like being made in a laboratory doesn't automatically make something harmful.

The key is to do your research and look beyond the label. Marketing terms like 'natural' can sound reassuring, but they don't always tell the full story.

Take a moment to understand what a product contains, what it's designed for, how it is manufactured, how sustainable it is and how to use it safely and then decide whether what you are buying is what you expected!

Science helps us make informed choices—not assumptions.
