After what feels like summer loving the sunshine ☀️

BBQs, the kids in the pool and finding every excuse to be outside...

It is truly THE perfect weather for rug drying. Couldn’t be any happier.

Today feels a little different.
It's cooler.
Cloudier.
A bit slower

Days like this feel like the perfect excuse to put the kettle on, sit down at the sewing machine and set to with the endless bags of rug repairs🧵

Slight problem is having half the team stuck in a boot and crutches after breaking her ankle and the other half having a full time job, please bare with us we are going as fast as we can.

We are still all systems go.

Hope you’re all out enjoying time with the ponies and soaking up the sun and sorting out your winter rugs 🤭

With the recent increase in equine flu outbreaks, it is everyone’s responsibility to help limit the spread of this highly infectious airborne disease.

As always, if your horse is showing any signs of being unwell, they must not travel or mix with other horses. Please also avoid sharing tack, grooming kits, water buckets, feed bowls, or any equipment between horses to help reduce the risk of cross contamination.

Please respect all private areas at CCR Equestrian, including stable yards and fields, which are strictly out of bounds to visitors. For the safety and wellbeing of our horses, please do not approach, feed, or pet any horses in the fields. Some horses may be nervous, young, or require restricted handling, and unnecessary interaction can cause stress or pose a safety risk.

All horses attending the centre must have up-to-date flu vaccinations, in line with either 6-month or annual booster requirements, and passport checks may be carried out at random. Vaccination plays a vital role in helping to prevent serious illness and reduce the spread of infection, although vaccinated horses may still carry and transmit the virus.

Please refer to the British Equestrian infographic below for guidance on the signs and symptoms of equine flu. If you have any concerns or suspect infection, seek professional veterinary advice immediately and do not attend shows, clinics, training sessions, or any other equestrian activities.

By working together and following these guidelines, we can continue to run events safely while reducing the risk of cross contamination and infection.

Thank you for helping us keep all horses at CCR Equestrian safe and healthy.

⚠️Clips to the bit now not allowed in BS or BD competition.
This week BS have added clips to the bit to the prohibited list of tack.

There has long been speculation that the rattling connection to the bit via these clips can cause headaches or at least a metallic resonation through the horses head.

They are also fairly unsafe getting stuck on things

What are your thoughts?

“I’ve got too many rugs.”

Said no horse person ever…

Because what if it: • Rains. • Drizzles. • Mists. • Breathes slightly damp air. • Drops 0.3 degrees overnight. • Decides to be “feels like” colder.

You need: Lightweight.
Medium.
Heavy.
With neck.
Without neck.
Spare neck.
Spare spare neck.
The one for “just in case.”
The one for “he might roll.”
The one you don’t like but can’t throw away.
The emergency backup for the backup.

And then there’s the emotional rugs.

“That’s his show rug.”
“That was on offer.”
“That one just fits him nicely.”
“That one makes him look posh.”

Meanwhile the horse is stood there like:

“I am literally a prehistoric outdoor animal.”

But no.

We will rotate rugs like we’re managing a couture collection.

Rug room looking like a small retail outlet.

Bank account whispering: “Please.”

Horse owners: “I just need one more lightweight…”

And we all know.

You never have too many rugs.

You just have weather that hasn’t happened yet. 🌧🐴😂

*** TOP WORMING TIP!! ***

As hard frosts hit the UK, those that need worming for encysted redworm will be done in the next week or two, so I thought it was a good time to share one of my top nuggets of worming (de-worming if we want to be correct, but as a “horsey” girl, I’ve always incorrectly said worming!).

Always worm your horse IN THE MORNING! Some horses with high worm burdens/unknown worming histories may colic as the worms start to die off. Some horses may react to a wormer. Some may not eat or drink for hours after being wormed. You need daylight and you need to be able to check your horse, if only at lunchtime and then again in the evening.

As an added tip to potentially avoid an out of hours vet bill, always worm on a week day!

I never advise worming in the evening unless you have cctv and can check your horse several hours later. It just makes sense to worm early morning so that people will always be around for the 12 hours or so after administering a wormer.

My worming posts always attract lots of questions, but this one is only about the ideal time of day to worm, so on this occasion I won’t be answering any questions - I’m having an easy Sunday 😉

For bonus marks, what type of worm is in this poo?

Feel free to share the post, but not to copy and paste as your own.
