The process of creating or restoring homes for clients often leads to long term working relationships, sometimes friendships. How satisfying it is to be asked to return and see work completed many years ago, now looking settled and being enjoyed. All these rooms were created within the space of a redundant squash court… a fun and happy project!

There are many positives of traditional architecture, and one of them is finding and working with local crafts people and commissioning work. Recently we had the pleasure of seeing this beautifully made single piece iron handrail being installed on site. The work by is exceptional and it finishes off our stairwell perfectly.

A site visit to see our garden room commission, and progress is impressive. Particularly rewarding is knowing the care and attention we gave the project at the design stage is being more than matched on site by the builders. It’s an honour seeing designs come to life, and this one feels particularly special.

The Loggia; currently on site and quickly taking shape, this special little building has drawn on the work of several arts and crafts architects before us. Our wonderful clients have encouraged us to use the materials we most enjoy and seeing 50mm handmade bricks, cut tile detailing, Douglas fire joinery and lime plaster all coming together is an absolute joy. We’ll be posting more very soon.

Twelve months ago the only feature on this wall was a plastic air vent cover. The room lacked a focal point so we designed one. A happy coming together of many people and their skills.

A few details from our current project in Suffolk. Bringing together traditional cedar shingles, hand bossed leadowrk, and pegged Douglas Fir framing. It’s always great to see our drawings translate to the site with this level of care.

1. Lead valley symmetry, cedar shingles and chimney
2. Lead hip and timber ring beam detail
3. Cedar shingles laid to dimished course
4. Eaves details alongside handmade bricks

Was fun to design, was probably less fun to make and install, but with the shelves it has tied the kitchen in our Suffolk together.

A few progress views of a garden loggia we designed for existing clients, now taking shape on site. Beautiful brickwork using lovely handmade 50mm bricks from , including special bricks for stout columns. An internal fireplace is in progress including cut detailing - all meticulously executed by
