Most people only see me for a few hours a month…
a quick clean here, a changeover there… and that’s it.
To some, I’m “just a cleaner.”
But what you don’t see is everything that happens in between those visits.
You don’t see the early starts, being out the house from 7am…
or the long days that don’t finish until 7pm.
And even then, I might have only been paid for 7 hours of actual cleaning.
Because the rest of my day?
That’s travelling from job to job.
That’s stopping off to restock.
That’s picking up supplies, dropping things off, making sure every single property is exactly how it should be.
You don’t see me doing errands for clients.
Running around making sure everything is ready for guests arriving that same day.
You don’t see the linen runs —
buying it, washing it, drying it, folding it, returning it… over and over again for BnBs.
Making sure it’s fresh, spotless, and up to standard every single time.
You don’t see me going out and buying all the extras —
shampoo, shower gel, toilet roll, washing up liquid…
all the small touches that make a stay feel comfortable, but take time, money, and effort to manage.
You don’t see me cleaning my own equipment at the end of the day.
Making sure everything is ready to go again tomorrow.
Because if my tools aren’t right, my work can’t be right.
And then there’s the part people really don’t see…
The mental load.
Constantly thinking ahead.
Planning schedules.
Making sure nothing is missed.
Dealing with last-minute changes, tight turnarounds, and high expectations.
Being a problem solver every single day.
Figuring things out on the spot.
Handling pressure without showing it.
And sometimes… being more than just a cleaner.
Being someone people talk to.
Listening, supporting, showing up with a positive attitude even when you’re running on empty.
Because this job isn’t just physical — even though it’s exhausting.
It’s being on your feet all day, lifting, scrubbing, rushing, pushing your body to keep going.
It’s mental strength too.
It’s showing up when you’re tired.
It’s staying motivated when no one sees the effort behind the scenes.
It’s keeping a strong mindset, even on the hard days.
Because no matter what kind of day I’m having…
my work still has to be perfect.
That’s the standard I hold myself to.
So no… I’m not “just a cleaner.”
I’m a business owner.
I’m managing time, clients, expectations, and standards.
I’m running around behind the scenes making everything come together.
I’m doing the jobs people don’t think about —
but would definitely notice if they weren’t done.
And I take pride in every single part of it.
Because this isn’t just cleaning…
this is hard work, dedication, and a whole lot more than people realise. 💪✨
