We had an update on the refuse and recycling situation last night before Full Council (no football for us!). The service is struggling with staffing and sickness issues as well as vehicle breakdowns. There have been 1800 new properties added to the rounds with no new resources. Driver shortages are key - the service struggles to recruit. The foodwaste collections are now working well.
The service priority is 1) General Waste 2) Food Collection 3) Recycling. If there are problems then Recycling tends to suffer. They are working very hard to stablilize the service but with August holidays coming up it is not realistic to say that things will be fully functional again until later in the year. Full updates are posted on the link below - if your bins are not collected please look here first as there may be information to assist. The service are fielding huge numbers of complaints which they of course understand. So in conclusion no real assurance that things will get better immediately but it is clear that within the funding and resources they have the people in this service are working extremely hard.
