What a day, I didn't have to look after Pam today so Phyllis and I had a day at the seaside. I drove us to Angelsey, but Phyllis wasn't prepared to queue just to look at some fish at the sea zoo, so we went next door and bought some salt instead. We couldn't go to Plas Newydd because I'd changed my National Trust membership from couple to single since the sad passing of dear Herbert, Phyllis did offer to wait in the car whilst I went and looked at the Murals but it didn't seem fair somehow.
So we went to the Pili-Palas for a look at the Butterflies, it's grown a lot since the last time I went, they have a donkey now, and some adorable chickens with fluffy feet.
After that we went to Beaumaris and hired a row boat to head into the estuary, which was slightly problematic as there was a yachting race going on and a nice man in a hat kept on firing a canon from the quayside, Phyllis was certain that he wasn't actually firing live ammunition at us, but we decided to head out into the bay just in case. So I rowed us out for an hour when all of a sudden Phyllis had a funny turn, I'm not quiet sure what happened, because she was sitting in the front and my back was turned, but she went quiet for a few minutes which is always an odd sign with Phyllis and so I dropped the oars to see what was happening. When I managed to stand up and turn around the poor love had fainted, heat exhaustion I'm guessing.
My first thought was to get us back to shore, so I dived in and retrieved the oars which I had foolishly let slip overboard, got back into the boat and turned us around. I was struggling a bit against the current and wasn't sure I'd be able to make it in time, when it suddenly occurred to me that there was an emergency box under the seat and hey presto, I was able to send out a flare. Within 10 minutes the marvellous men from the RNLI turned up and whisked Phyllis off to shore where she could get some proper medical attention. It took me another hour to get the boat back to shore, but by the time I did Phyllis was looking much recovered. We just had time to thank the RNLI men for their fabulous work before we had to head back home. I drove us back along the old A5 route through Betwys-Coed and Llangollen, lots of old memories of childhood holidays.
