🌧️🐀 RAIN OR SHINE, WE GET THE JOB DONE! 💪

Today we were out in the pouring rain, helping a customer who had been tormented by rats.

When rats are causing problems in your home it's important to investigate properly rather than simply treat the symptoms.

Today's job involved digging around the property's foundations and underground pipes to investigate the rat activity. During the excavation, we uncovered a redundant open underground pipe, as well as burrowing leading into the wall cavity.

Effective pest control isn't always straightforward. Sometimes it means getting muddy, working in miserable weather and digging beneath the surface to investigate what's really going on.

🔎 We investigate the cause.
🏡 We work towards solutions that help protect your property.

At Wight Pest Control, we believe in doing things properly. When a customer is being tormented by rats, we understand how distressing it can be, and we're here to help.

🐀 How rats can get into a property

This photo shows just how important it is to investigate beyond the obvious signs of rat activity.

In this case, a concealed drainage area beneath the paving had provided a route for rats to burrow from the drain beneath the paving and towards the property wall, allowing access into the wall cavities.

This is why simply putting down bait isn't always enough.

At Wight Pest Control, we look for the root cause of rodent problems including:

🔎 Drainage issues
🕳️ Burrowing and hidden voids
🏠 Entry points into buildings
🐀 Rodent activity and harbourage

Find the route. Find the cause. Fix the problem.

🐾 Good luck, Angus! 🐾

Today we said goodbye to our foster boy Angus as he headed off to his new home. ❤️

We’ve had the pleasure of fostering Angus for Friends Of The Animals for the past two weeks, and what a character he has been!

He’s brought plenty of fun, cuddles and a fair bit of chaos into our home 😂

It’s been lovely watching him settle in, grow in confidence and show what a great dog he is. Saying goodbye is definitely the hardest part of fostering, but knowing he’s gone to a wonderful new home with lots of space and other dogs to play with makes it that little bit easier.

We’re going to miss you, Angus, but we’re so happy you’ve found your forever home. 🐶❤️

Enjoy your new adventure, big man. You deserve it!

Awaab’s Law Phase 2

From **30 November 2026**, Awaab’s Law expands in English social housing to cover significant “domestic hygiene” hazards. Government guidance explicitly includes pest infestations caused or sustained by property defects, inadequate refuse storage or poor drainage.

A serious rat infestation threatening health can be treated as an emergency; significant hazards must normally be investigated within 10 working days, with safety work completed within five working days after the investigation. Emergency hazards must be made safe within 24 hours.

Large wasp nest treated in Godshill today, the biggest we have dealt with this year.

Wasp nests are now at their seasonal peak, with colonies reaching their largest size and activity levels. This nest had grown extensively around the roof timbers and down the brickwork and could have contained thousands of wasps.

Another large, well established nest successfully brought under control by Wight Pest Control.

MORE THAN JUST PEST CONTROL 🐀✨

Following recent rat activity, this outbuilding needed a complete clear-out, clean and disinfection.

All accumulated rubbish, debris and contaminated materials were carefully removed. The affected surfaces were then thoroughly cleaned and treated with a professional disinfectant.

The space is now cleaner, safer and ready to be put back into use.

Wight Pest Control provides a complete service—from controlling the infestation to cleaning and disinfecting the areas rodents have contaminated.

If you have a rat problem in an outbuilding, garage, shed or loft, we’re here to help.

Just a few of some of the entry points for rats we have found in properties this week.

Many of these access points were completely hidden, most homeowners had no idea they were there.

Finding the entry point is just as important as dealing with the rats. If access isn't identified and addressed, the problem is likely to return.

At Wight Pest Control, we carry out thorough inspections to locate how rodents are entering your property and carry out proofing works to prevent future infestations.
