🐝 BEE SEASON IS HERE 🐝
This time of year we receive a huge number of calls about wasps around homes, gardens, lofts and businesses, but they turn out to be bees. Before taking action, it’s important to know what you have? Bees are one of the most important pollinators we have in the UK and should be protected wherever possible.
🇬🇧 The UK is home to over 270 species of bees, including:
• Honey bees
• Bumblebees
• Solitary bees
Many species are sadly declining due to habitat loss, pesticides and climate change.
🌼 Why are bees so important?
Bees pollinate crops, flowers and wild plants, helping produce much of the food we eat and supporting our entire ecosystem. Without bees, both agriculture and wildlife would suffer massively.
🐝 Honey bee swarm?
If you see a large cluster of honey bees hanging from a tree, fence or wall, this is often a swarm looking for a new home. Swarming honey bees are usually quite calm and, in most cases, can be safely collected by a local beekeeper.
📞 If you believe you have a honey bee swarm, we strongly recommend contacting a registered beekeeper first rather than treating them.
⚠️ However, not all stinging insects are bees. Wasps and certain problem species may still require professional pest control treatment depending on the situation.
At Hatfield’s Pest Control, we always aim to identify the species correctly and preserve bees whenever possible. 🐝
