SOLD: 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster

Produced between 1957 and 1963 as the open-top companion to the iconic 300SL Gullwing, the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster quickly established itself as one of the most desirable sports cars of its era. With just 1,858 examples built, it remains a true collector's dream. Renowned for its elegant design and advanced engineering, the 300SL Roadster continues to stand as an enduring symbol of automotive excellence.

Originally delivered to South Africa, this example is finished in its factory-correct DB180 Silver Grey Metallic over a red leather interior. The car later made its way to the United States, where a succession of enthusiastic custodians ensured it remained in exceptional condition through extensive maintenance, together with restoration work to the paintwork and upholstery.

Accompanied by a comprehensive history file, factory book pack, original tool roll and jack, this Roadster has now joined a private collection, where it will be enjoyed as intended on long-distance touring adventures.

We are actively seeking similar cars for our inventory. If you are considering selling, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Last week we celebrated British F1 world champion Mike Hawthorn’s legacy with a fund-raising track day at Goodwood. We were privileged to be running BHL 1, Archie Scott Brown’s 1956 Lister Maserati - one of the most original Listers in existence and one of the only remaining Works cars that Archie competed in. The car’s owner graciously gifted Robin Donni the ride, his first time on the famous track. Robin is the son of Swiss Jaguar specialist Georg Donni who brought his Jaguar XJR-7 out to play.

Thank you to Michael Ballard and the team at Goodwood for a special day, remembering the legend Mike Hawthorn.

SOLD: 1955 AC Aceca V8

Several AC Acecas have seen their original engines replaced with a V8, but few, if any, have had the level of engineering applied to this example.

The specification has everything you want from a V8-powered Aceca. A 5.0-litre Ford small-block ‘Boss’ 302 engine with a four-barrel Edelbrock carburettor, a Tremec five-speed manual gearbox, all-round vented disc brakes sitting behind 60-spoke chrome wire wheels, electronic ignition, an electric fan and for the benefit of the driver and their lucky passenger, air conditioning.

Completed on 21 October 1955 and built in left-hand drive, the car was originally exported to the Netherlands. Forty years later, it found its way to San Francisco, California, where it underwent an extensive restoration and conversion to its current specification. It was then imported to the UK in May 2021, where it has been fully road registered and has been residing ever since.

The Great British Jaguar Day at Bicester Motion was a wonderful celebration of one of Britain’s great motoring marques. We were privileged to spend time with fellow enthusiasts, owners and friends, sharing stories and enjoying the rare sight of so many significant Jaguars brought together in one place. This special occasion was made possible by Chris Harris and Friends.

Our display included two C-Types - both of which had received silverware at the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Joining them were two significant XK120s, one being ‘MGJ 79’ - an early alloy-bodied roadster which was the first XK120 to cross the finish line at Le Mans in 1950, beautifully prepared by our friends at CKL Developments. Completing our display was the ever-popular XJR-15.

Chris Harris took to the stage and was joined by David Brabham, who shared stories from the Jaguar Inter-Continental Challenge, his time competing in North America, and his career in Formula One. Afterwards, David fired up the XJR-15, much to the delight of the crowd.

Thank you to the owners who allowed us to share these special cars with such an enthusiastic audience. We’d also like to thank Guy Broad Spares who awarded the XK120 as ‘most desirable straight-six car’.

The Aston Martin Vanquish S is one of those cars that leaves everyone who encounters it shaken and stirred. The 520bhp V12 purrs graciously at idle, but when you press on the accelerator, it certainly growls away.

This particular Vanquish S benefits from a manual conversion, which was done by Aston Martin Works, utilising the six-speed gearbox, clutch, and switchgear from the V8 Vantage.

Finished in the must-have specification - Titanium Silver paintwork over Phantom hides, the eleven-spoke alloy wheels, heated front seats in a 2+2 configuration, and a quilted headliner, this must be one of the finest first-generation Vanquish’s in the UK.

The moment the Jaguar XJR-15 came to life…and Chris Harris was caught slightly off guard.

The recent Bicester Scramble offered a rare chance to see, and hear one of Jaguar’s most extraordinary cars ahead of The Great British Jaguar Day on 23rd May.
