This isn’t standard cleaning.
The technician is carrying out controlled soot removal under full PPE and powered air respirator due to the risk from fine carbon particulates, toxic residues, and acidic deposits left behind after a fire.
The vacuuming stage is critical.

🚨 “It’s a wet room… you don’t need to lift the floor.”
Really? Let’s talk about that.
This job came in as standing water on a vinyl bathroom floor. On the surface, it looked contained. But Category 3 water isn’t just “wet”… it’s contaminated. We’re talking bacteria, viruses, and pathogens that you cannot see, but you absolutely cannot ignore.

So we lifted the floor.
And there it was…
Contamination tracked underneath the vinyl, absorbed into the subfloor, sitting against the perimeter edges. This isn’t a drying job. This is decontamination and removal.

💡 Here’s the reality:
Vinyl is not a barrier. It traps and spreads contamination underneath
Adhesives and subfloors absorb bacteria-laden water
Pathogens like E. coli, Salmonella, and even C. diff spores can persist if not physically removed
Leaving it in place? You’re sealing in a biohazard… not fixing the problem.

We stripped it back to the subfloor, removed all affected materials, and prepared the area for controlled drying and decontamination the right way.

Urine contamination doesn’t always mean ripping everything out – but it does mean doing it properly.

In this case, the urine contamination was contained within the carpet fibres and had not pe*****ted through to the underlay, which was inspected and confirmed to be clean and dry. That’s an important distinction… and one that’s often missed.

What mattered was correct assessment and controlled treatment, not assumptions.

•Carpet uplifted for inspection
•Underlay checked and confirmed unaffected
•Targeted urine neutralisation at fibre level
•Subfloor checked as a precaution
•Controlled airflow drying to prevent odour reactivation
•Carpet refitted and finished correctly
•No masking sprays. No “it’ll be fine once it dries”. No guesswork.

Urine odours return when contamination is misdiagnosed, and incorrectly contained, not because the product “didn’t work”. Assessment comes first. Treatment follows.
