𧽠A little reminder about what actually goes on behind the scenes of being a cleanerβ¦
When you book a cleaner, you see the finished result. β¨
We scrub toilets. We clean gunky, hair-filled drains. We hoover, mop, wipe, scrub, bend, stretch and basically break our backs trying to leave your home looking its best.
And every house is different.
Different layouts. Different surfaces. Different expectations. Different arrangements between the client and cleaner. Different levels of cleaning. Different skills needed.
We're constantly thinking: Have I missed anything? Have I done everything we've agreed? Is there something I need to remember for this particular home?
And every time we have no break.
Then we go home⦠and the working day isn't necessarily over.
There's admin to catch up on. Messages from existing clients. Enquiries from potential clients. Quotes. Bookings. Planning. Ordering products. Keeping track of stock.
And then there's the financial side that people don't always see.
Tax. Insurance. National Insurance. Fuel and travel. Cleaning products. Equipment. Business expenses.
Whatever is left after all of that isn't simply our "wage".
Then there are the mountains of cleaning cloths. π
Washing them. Disinfecting them properly. Drying them. Making sure we have enough ready for the next day. Ordering more products when we're running low.
And then⦠we go home to our own homes.
Our own washing.
Our own dishes.
Our own cleaning.
Cooking dinner.
School runs.
Homework.
Baths.
Bedtime routines.
Morning routines.
Being a mum.
Being a partner.
Trying to be a friend.
Trying to remember to look after ourselves too.
And somewhere in between all of that, we're supposed to find time for basic self-care, rest and actually being a human being.
Which, let's be honest, is usually the part that gets forgotten.
And our "days off"? π
They're often not really days off.
They're meetings, appointments, shopping, admin, stock runs, washing, catching up on everything we couldn't do during the week and preparing ourselves to start all over again.
Cleaning isn't just turning up for a few hours and wiping some surfaces.
For many of us, it's a physically demanding job and a business that we have to run ourselves.
We're constantly moving. Constantly thinking. Constantly organising. Constantly giving.
And sometimes we give 99% of ourselves to everyone else and their homes⦠and leave 1% for ourselves.
So this is just a little reminder:
Behind every freshly cleaned home is a human being.
A person who gets tired.
A person who has a family.
A person who has their own home to look after.
A person who has bills, responsibilities, worries and a million things going on behind the scenes.
So please, be kind to your cleaner. β€οΈ
We genuinely care about the homes we clean, we take pride in what we do, and we give so much of ourselves to make other people's lives a little easier.
Sometimes that kindness back means more than you realise. π§½β€οΈ
Cleaners aren't machines. We're human too.
