This spiral staircase from our Notting Hill project was a contemporary intervention in a historic home, leading from ground to lower ground floor. Designed to be as light as possible, the staircase was constructed from steel, glass and wood, set against walls of peach lacquer.

Gilded book cases finished with craquelure, intended to display a collection of Pre-Colombian and Contemporary art, frame and brighten the stair case, while a single gilt line highlights the existing original woodwork throughout the house. These finishes were created with Isabelle Day, who spent weeks implementing these all-important finishing touches in person.

Looking back at a rarely seen shot from one of our favourite Notting Hill projects, photographed by the first time we worked together, when it was featured in House & Garden in 2017 with words by . The room features a pair of Gio Ponti armchairs from and an extremely rare lamp by from on a lovely antique Empire desk.

Fittingly, the curved window overlooks a wonderful communal garden, famed for its Bonfire Night festivities!

Wishing you all a very Happy Guy Fawkes Night! 🎆 🎇

This year we mark Halloween with a very special haunted house, one of our favourite projects to date.

The story of this house has many layers, and we are privileged to have been able to add another to its ongoing narrative. Our clients fully embraced all of the perks, quirks and occasional irks of this unique property and committed to truly make it their own. Their labour of love involved a 7+ year building project (we got involved halfway through). And after that real horror, who would be afraid of a (friendly) ghost? 👻

Her name is Inge Henderson. She was a formidable and charismatic woman, who was a musician, singer and very early teacher of the Alexander Technique. She lived in the house with her husband from 1940-1963 when they divorced, after which she continued to live in the house with her ex-husband and his new wife. If that isn’t a haunting enough reason for sticking around in search of some space, then I don’t know what is! Our client fondly refers to her as a protector of the house, even if sometimes doors open and close on their own, and one occasionally hears the ti**le of piano keys when alone in the house!

Inge’s story is as much a part of the narrative of this house as its latest layer, in which are privileged to have played a part. Our clients are only the 4th family to own and occupy the house since it’s completion in 1879. Their humble and gracious embrace of the custodianship of this extraordinary house, and the responsibilities involved, is what makes the results of our collaboration so personal, unique and meaningful.

Oh — and eagle-eyed viewers might recognise it from a Hammer Horror-inspired episode of Inside No. 9 (swipe to see)! 👀🏠

In this edition of Creative Confessions, we turn our focus to Maison Lily Blue and its founder, Lily-Blue Roman - a designer reimagining the role of the screen in contemporary interiors. Her sculptural works explore the balance between privacy and expression, structure and softness, adding rhythm, movement and elegance to a space.

To mark our first collaboration, Maddux Creative and Maison Lily Blue have come together to design a screen that embodies this shared vision: thoughtful, tactile, and deeply architectural. The Forma Screen unites Lily-Blue’s sculptural craftsmanship with our bespoke textile. The result is a dramatic statement piece - floating ash panels and woven fabric that shifts beautifully with the light. The Forma Sheer can be found on our website - do get in touch with any enquiries! https://zurl.co/BimLd

Lily-Blue’s approach to design is instinctive yet exacting—rooted in form, but always with feeling. We spoke with her about inspiration, intention, and the quiet strength of objects that speak for themselves.

It’s all in the details…

The master bathroom of our Clerkenwell Penthouse was conceived as an urban sanctuary, created with natural tones and materials. The complex inversion of green marble and classic travertine walls invokes a feeling of the outdoors whilst showering in natural light from an overhead skylight. Rounded oak detailing with added ribbed texture softens and compliments the stone.

And of course, perfectly matched with a vintage kimono!

Bespoke is the New Standard: Creating Spaces with Purpose and Precision.

Every space begins with a decision — a material, a form, a feeling. Whether it’s underfoot, at eye level, or anchoring a room, those early choices define everything that follows. As makers, we’re here to talk about what happens when design starts with intention — and how bespoke opens the door to something deeper.

Join us in conversation with George Smith, Edition 169 and Clay & Rock in conversation with, as we discuss the design process, bespoke design and what that looks like.

Date: 11th November
Time: 5–7pm
Location: George Smith, 587–589 King’s Road, London SW6 2EH

The kitchen of our Notting Hill House centred around this exquisite piece of Statuario marble - we searched high and low to find it. To showcase it, we designed the island with a waterfall edge, positioned prominently to be seen from the dining room and as you enter the space.

We concealed functionality behind discreet, classically inspired, crisp white joinery to showcase the marble to its best, and to highlight the view from the window. The striking chandeliers from provide the perfect accessory to this otherwise quite classic kitchen.

The adjoining dining room offers a bold contrast, with its artisanally applied, deep green lacquered walls. Overlooking the verdant communal garden at the rear, the finish brings the green tones indoors — a vibrant counterpoint to the kitchen’s calm sophistication.

Thank you to for sharing one of our favourite projects!

'There's something about this house,’ says Jenifer. ‘When you walk in, it seems to have a life of its own. I feel like we are its caretakers, rather than simply the owners’. Built in 1879 for the grand sum of £4,600, it is in the gothic revival style and has a commanding presence. The exterior bears some of the hallmarks of the style – from the pointed arches of the windows to the quatrefoil motif – and foreshadows what is to be found inside. With such an extraordinary, enigmatic exterior to live up to, the interior of this north London house required special treatment. The owners called in visionary design studio , the winners of our 2022 Interior Designer of the Year award. The resulting collaboration is a masterclass in distinctive detail.'
