Hot weather might not feel like chimney sweep seasonโ€ฆ but itโ€™s actually one of the best times to get it done โ˜€๏ธ

A dry flue sweeps far better than one full of condensation.

On hot days, flues can also work in reverse, which is why some people notice unpleasant sooty smells through the summer months. A clean flue helps minimise this.

Sweeping now means your stove is clean, checked over and ready to go when the colder weather returns ๐Ÿ‘

Bought a house recently with a stove or open fire already installed? Itโ€™s always worth getting it checked over before using it.

This stove was commissioned in March 2026 and booked in by the new homeowner for a sweep and safety check.

The main issues found were:

โ€ข The glass seal was mostly missing, allowing the glass to move around in the door

โ€ข The rear blanking plate was only just hanging on

At some point, pieces of fire rope had even been wedged behind the glass clips as a bodge repair ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Everything was stripped down, swept, repaired properly and tested.

Now sealed correctly, working as it should and ready for use ๐Ÿ‘

Just because thereโ€™s a sweep access straight into the flue, doesnโ€™t mean the stove itself gets ignored ๐Ÿ‘€

Once the internal components are removed, itโ€™s easy to see how blocked the baffles had become.

These are the parts that help control airflow and keep the stove burning properly โ€” but they only work if theyโ€™re kept clean.

Blocked baffles = poor draw, harder lighting, reduced efficiency and a greater chance of smoke problems.

All cleaned out, checked over and back to how it should be ๐Ÿ”ฅ

First sweep on this one over in Sleaford โ€” originally installed by Middleton's Property Services, Stove, Fireplace and Chimney specialists.

Liner had the sort of soot youโ€™d expect with decent fuel and regular use. Nothing out of the ordinary.

All swept through, checked over and burning properly.

Told the customer to carry on as you are ๐Ÿ‘Œ

This one looked fine at a glance, but the glass had slipped down and was sitting directly on the metal door.

Thatโ€™s how they crack โ€” heat builds, nowhere to expandโ€ฆ then it fails.

Caught early, adjusted and sitting correctly, plus a new door seal supplied and fitted.

Simple job nowโ€ฆ avoids a much more expensive one later.

Back to burning properly ๐Ÿ”ฅ
