I am in the middle of the biggest job I have ever done resetting pavers, cutting out old mortar and resin before repointing. It’s a huge area and will take about 20 days and then I have a wall to repair. The views are stunning and I have this fellow for company. I have been going to Dewhursts for years. It is great for specialist paints and so much more. The staff have always provided me with good advice, particularly in my early days. More recently I know they have recommended me to people. They have now asked me to paint the exterior of the shop which somehow feels really good. It will be a few months before I get round to it but I am looking forward to it.

I work for a lot of different people and organisations which means I can sometimes batch similar jobs together. That is why I had teak oil Tuesday. A whole day spent refreshing and protecting wood with this lovely oil.

If I had a choice then it is this, a preservative or a creocote every time. Paints and varnishes are always susceptible to peeling. After all, we live in an environment of heavy rain and humidity which takes its toll.

I have been a handyman for over a decade and you recognise a pattern in the workflow. December and January are quiet and then the work begins to come in and with spring comes a huge increase in calls. There’s a steady stream through summer and then it slows down in the autumn.

I have been tackling a very big patio repair job, gardening, making a raised bed, a couple more bollards, painting and much more.

Powerwashing is a regular part of my work and here are some pictures of a job I was able to fit in yesterday. It makes the space look fresher and is certainly less slippery.

If you need a handyman you can dm me, email [email protected] or text me on 07833 996333.

The job of the week was to take down these old fence panels and replace them with the feather edge boards. The reason I haven’t replaced them with new panels is the concrete posts have moved making them hard to fit but they also look unsightly and uneven. Using the feather edge boards give you a far better, straighter finish. I am also confident that they will last longer. I am fortunate to have a neighbour who loves burning wood so I could easily dispose of the old panels. My customer has asked me to go back and do another section of fencing and repair a shed roof.

I have now completed the most recent round of painting in Colne. All the bollards on the streets adjacent to the main road have been done and I have broken new ground painting railings all with the Colne signature gold ring. I also painted the lettering on this finger post and went back later to do the edging. I was particularly pleased to get the railings by the new market done which makes quite a difference. Apologies if I have neglected this page of late but I’ve been doing a series of posts on my village fb site. I have kept quite busy since Christmas and have even been out painting bollards and a finger post and those photos will follow.

I thought I would share a picture of a more unusual project. I was asked to build what was described as a bbq altar with an old sink to take the foil tray and coals. The shelves are a good storage idea but also provide the necessary stability and I could not have done this without them. We agreed it would be quite a conversation piece!

If you need a handyman message me or call and text on 07833 996333 and there is my email [email protected].

The mid winter break is a distant memory and I have been back with my nose to the grindstone quite literally. So far I have built shelves for a pantry, cut doors to accommodate a new carpet, replaced tiles, repaired a door knocker, insulated round a door, replaced sealent, repaired kitchen cabinets, replaced broken hinges on doors, repaired a dry stone and wet stone wall as well as a gate and fence.

I finally finished this cabinet for my house to take the clutter of shoes by the front door and it has made the house look so much tidier. I said my nose had been to the grindstone as I have been sharpening tools for the year ahead. It may seem like a lot of axes but two are for chopping wood at home and the others go in boxes for different types of work.

If you want to get in touch you can message me, email [email protected] or text and call me on 07833 996333.

I have posted these picture on Trawden Talk, my local fb page, as part of a series on the work I have done that meant something to me. These are all things of things I have made for Christmas. I have posted many of the pictures before but over 200 people now follow the page so it will be new to some of you. Merry Christmas one and all!

I have been working with a friend replacing this fence and it has been a bit of a transformation. It is always hard work and you never know what you will find when you start digging. We had a lot of nice remarks from passers by which was good. We will be going back to do more work in the New Year.
