I'm a responsible and reasonably priced handyman able to take on a variety of tasks in the Burnley, What's more I am fully insured and reasonably priced.

I work for homeowners, tenants, landlords and letting agencies providing maintenance and repairs for homes and gardens primarily in the Burnley, Pendle and Craven areas but sometimes further afield. I can undertake power washing, painting and decorating, gardening, patio and path repairs, wall and fence repairs and much, much more. I am responsible, well organised and reliable working to a high st

andard. I will note tend to be able to do anything I can't nor will I pretend to be available if I am not. There is no job too small but some probably too big!

I had to get about 180 bags of waste moved from a project to a skip across a field. The bad weather meant that my van slid on the grass and was no use. My other plans didn’t work and I was reduced to getting wheelbarrows and walking all of it across the field. I usually work alone but thankfully I had Isaac with me. You hear a lot about lazy, work shy teenagers but he put in a great shift with no complaints. I think we must have spurred each other on because what looked like a massive task was done in a couple of hours. To be fair I am not sure I could do that again tomorrow!

The old trowel mastic was crumbling away so I have cut out, cleaned up and replaced it with new trowel mastic. I really like how it looks on an old stone building and I find it quite easy to work with. However, I could only do the back window with a combination of sticking my head out and working off the ladders which were very steep because of the narrow alley. There was also working off a slopping roof which is always more tricky. However, I was very pleased with the result and I have been booked to go back next summer to paint the exterior woodwork. This week I have been finishing work on this long wall. When it was built it seems that they either ran out of stone or couldn’t get the sides level so they substituted industrial quantities of mortar which has now perished leaving the top stones sagging. I was asked to repair it and have used setts which, when weathered, will be a good match. Great help from my customer getting the slabs in place and then much fettling on my part. Thanks to a mallet, spirit level and string it is straight and level again. I am quite chuffed with it and the client seems pleased as well. When I agreed to take on this job late lat year I knew it was big but I did not realise how big it was. The main task has been cutting out and replacing the mortar but I have probably had to lift and reset enough slabs for a big patio as well. I am now finishing some significant wall repairs at the front and then it will be time for a bit more power washing andthe skip. It has been good work to have with panoramic views over the valley.

I spent a couple of days in Foulridge rubbing down and putting two coats of paint on these window and door surrounds. Every job has its challenges and this was the first time I used the plank to get to the top of the window. Painting around the little window above the kitchen involved standing on the ledge and reaching round. However, the weather was great, there were no accidents, plenty of drinks and a happy customer. Sounds good to me!

I am in the middle of the biggest job I have ever done resetting pavers, cutting out old mortar and resin before repointing. It’s a huge area and will take about 20 days and then I have a wall to repair. The views are stunning and I have this fellow for company. I have been going to Dewhursts for years. It is great for specialist paints and so much more. The staff have always provided me with good advice, particularly in my early days. More recently I know they have recommended me to people. They have now asked me to paint the exterior of the shop which somehow feels really good. It will be a few months before I get round to it but I am looking forward to it.

I work for a lot of different people and organisations which means I can sometimes batch similar jobs together. That is why I had teak oil Tuesday. A whole day spent refreshing and protecting wood with this lovely oil.

If I had a choice then it is this, a preservative or a creocote every time. Paints and varnishes are always susceptible to peeling. After all, we live in an environment of heavy rain and humidity which takes its toll.

I have been a handyman for over a decade and you recognise a pattern in the workflow. December and January are quiet and then the work begins to come in and with spring comes a huge increase in calls. There’s a steady stream through summer and then it slows down in the autumn.

I have been tackling a very big patio repair job, gardening, making a raised bed, a couple more bollards,painting and much more.

Powerwashing is a regular part of my work and here are some pictures of a job I was able to fit in yesterday. It makes the space look fresher and is certainly less slippery.
