Ravens have a reputation for being clever, curious and just a little bit mysterious - and to be fair, they’ve earned it.

These intelligent birds are known for their problem-solving abilities, strong memories and highly observant behaviour, which makes them one of the most fascinating members of the corvid family.
Of course, at Coda Falconry, we also know they can have very big personalities.

So if this post reminded you of someone at work…well, we’ll leave you to deal with that information 👀

Hot weather calls for cool snacks 🧊

So naturally, our resident glossy boy received a carefully prepared frozen treat full of bird-approved goodies.

(Loki handled the waiting period with dignity, grace and absolutely no dramatic squawking whatsoever.)

Made with berries, nuts and a lot of supervision, this little ice treat is a simple way to offer enrichment, encourage natural foraging behaviour and help keep things interesting during warmer weather, for all the birds at Coda Falconry 🐦‍⬛

Meet the newest - and currently fluffiest - member of the Coda Falconry bird team, our very own Sparrowhawk!
She arrived with us at just 14 days old, which means she is currently less “sleek woodland hunter” and more “tiny suspicious pom-pom with feet.”

She is a female sparrowhawk, she is growing fast, and she is already taking her role as Very Important Baby Bird extremely seriously 🐣
There is just one small problem…

She needs a name!

Drop your suggestions in the comments and we’ll let the community help decide 💜

Most liked name wins. Within reason. Please behave.

Fun fact, Red-footed Falcons have highly social breeding behaviours and actually nest in colonies. 💞

Both male and female falcons share incubation duties, as well as hunting and raising the young. So, like many birds of prey, Red-Footed Falcons form an absolute power couple.

Birds of prey are already perfectly designed.
Excellent eyesight.
Powerful talons.
Silent flight.
Highly specialised hunting skills.

So naturally, we gave them arms.

Was this necessary? No.
Did it improve them? Also no.
Did we enjoy it? Deeply.

Have a swipe through our very scientific study into what would happen if birds of prey had tiny little arms.

Please enjoy responsibly.

Our darling Pip/Pippy/Perfect Pip - showcasing her track skills 🏃‍♀️‍➡️🏃‍♀️‍➡️
(She saw Jelly Bean running on .ducks and wanted to join in 🩷)

Despite her teeny size, as a burrowing owl, Pip possesses suprisingly long legs - super useful when she wants to chase after fast moving insects or handlers at Coda!
We could do a whole series on super cool interesting facts about Pip, her species, and their ✨unique✨ behaviours (and we may just do that). But for now, everyone please tell Pip she did a good job.

A very normal amount of effort going into showcasing some of our beautiful birds 👁️👄👁️
(inspired by: )

All jokes aside, these portraits were all taken by our resident bird whisperer and photographer extraordinaire, , showcasing the kind of detail, character and intensity you can capture at our Bird of Prey Photography Workshops.

You bring the camera.
We bring the birds.
The birds bring the stare 🦉
