Hi and thank you for taking the time to read this post
I have had some video on my phone for quite a while and this seems like a good time to post it here as with the covid virus lockdown I have the time to explain the back story
a customer who I do a number of plumbing jobs for had purchased a one bedroom flat as an investment and was refurbishing the property they had asked me to check over the boiler as there seemed to be a problem
On arrival I started with a visual inspection and noticed the boiler was leaking water from somewhere inside the combustion chamber I removed the inner case cover and viewed the dripping water and staining up to the top of the boiler the water was coming inside from the flue.
Now going outside looking for the cause I could see the water was leaking from a flat above my customers soaking the wall and dripping onto my customers flue acting like a funnel and filling up the boiler with water
I made a report back to my customer advising them to speak to the insurer
a few days later my customer calls me and informs me the loss adjuster has told her the boiler is leaking and is not covered by insurance
Now fortunately I am in possession of a video that I recorded on my phone of the inspection which resolved the situation the insurance paid up and my customer got a new boiler
The lesson of the story is to get advice from a qualified person.
I wonder how many times the loss adjuster has written off peoples claims without anyone questioning it
I have attached the inspection video take a look it only takes a couple of minutes but shows the situation clearly
