Petrol prices: Fuel costs making driving lessons unaffordable

Driving lessons are at risk of becoming unaffordable as rising fuel prices will be passed on to pupils, an instructor has said.
Keith Willicombe, from Cardiff, said he was having to review his prices after delaying for as long as he could.
He said people were starting to be priced out of lessons.
According to the RAC, the average price for a litre of petrol has risen to £1.82, while average price of diesel was £1.88 per litre on Thursday.

UK petrol and diesel prices: more new records for both fuels

Average fuel prices in the UK have once again hit new record highs. Petrol is now 187.01p per litre, while diesel is 193.30p per litre, but drivers will find higher prices than this at some retailers, particularly motorways where both fuels are now regularly pegged at more than £2 per litre.
That said, supermarkets are still charging slightly less than the average. At the big four supermarkets - Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco - petrol is an average of 182.64p per litre and diesel is 190.10p per litre.

How to save fuel - the ultimate guide

1. Make sure you maintain your vehicle
Regular maintenance and servicing improves the efficiency of your vehicle, and therefore can improve your fuel consumption.
2. Does cruise control use more fuel?
Cruise control only aids fuel economy when driving on a constant flat surface, hence why it is usually best reserved for motorway driving.
3. Does the AC and heat use fuel?
Yes, it does. Don’t use your air conditioning unless you really have to as it uses engine power and therefore increases fuel consumption.
