On this day in 1945 the guns finally fell silent. The men and women of Britain had given everything in a fight that spanned the globe. Many never came home. Those who did returned to a country they had fought to protect, believing their sacrifice would keep it safe for generations to come.
Everywhere I turn, our nation still carries the scars and defences they built. The remains of concrete walls and pillboxes still stand watch along our beaches. Mounds lie scattered across the moorland where once they stopped enemy gliders from landing. These silent reminders speak of a time when Britain stood ready to protect itself at all costs.
They endured starvation, disease, torture and death so that our borders would be protected, our people free and our way of life preserved. They stood against the tide when the odds seemed impossible.
And yet today, the very country they saved is being surrendered. Our so-called leaders allow thousands of illegal immigrants to land on our shores, while our veterans sleep on the streets and our communities struggle.
If those who fought and fell could see what has become of their nation, would they feel pride, or betrayal? Would they recognise the Britain they died for?
We owe them more than words. We owe them the courage to protect what they protected, to stand where they stood, and to say “enough”.
LEST WE FORGET is not a slogan.
It is a WARNING ⚠️
