My AMUSF students are graduating — and so many are already turning their skills into flourishing soft furnishing businesses.

The details make the difference. I had a lovely day on Monday teaching integrated returns for Roman blinds, using Justine’s method — The secret to a flawless outside-mount Roman blind that hugs the wall with zero light gaps. A reasonably quick detail, huge visual payoff. 🪡✨

Behind the scenes at this weekend’s Roman blind course! Each wonderful student created both a lined and an interlined Roman blind, and even added trim using a professional faux hem technique.

The studio was full of laughter, support and encouragement — a truly fabulous weekend.

📐 Standard stack or cascade stack — which one’s right for your window?

Both pull your Roman blind up out of the way, but they sit differently once raised:
🔹 Standard stack — folds sit flat and even, sitting slightly below the headrail
🔹 Cascade stack — folds step down in a soft, layered cascade for a more tailored look

🌟Part 1 🌟Making a Roman blind-
Preparing my front facing fabric. Today’s client has chosen the gorgeous harlequin Takara.
A quick overview of the process. I will post this make as a series of three.
Apologies for the gym wear 🫣 I had managed to squeeze a quick session in beforehand and making this video was a last minute decision. Hopefully that can be overlooked and the video can be of some help.

How to create Pinch Pleats in 5 simple Steps ✨🧵

1️⃣ Measure & mark evenly spaced pleat sections across the curtain top. We do this with pins.
2️⃣ Fold each section by bringing pin to pin together.
3️⃣ Stitch straight down the base of the pinched fold. Machine stitch.
4️⃣ form the pleat evenly and secure with a clip before hand sewing in place. Sew at the base of the pleat and the top to secure the form/shape.
5️⃣ Measure for your pin hooks. Slide them into place. If heavy curtains you may wish to add stitching also for support.

You are now ready to install 🤩🎉
