This week I was thinking about who actually uses our domestic cleaning service.

It’s easy to assume it’s people who don’t like cleaning.

But that’s rarely the reason.

Some of our clients are retired and would rather spend their energy seeing grandchildren than scrubbing floors.

Some are teachers who give everything to everyone else all week and simply need a bit of breathing space.

Some are busy professionals building careers.

Some are daughters and sons arranging support for ageing parents.

Some are neurodivergent adults who find the constant cycle of housework overwhelming.

Some are families trying to juggle work, school runs, clubs and everything in between.

The thing they all have in common?

They are good people carrying a lot.

Sometimes having a cleaner isn’t about having a perfectly clean home.

Sometimes it’s about having one less thing to worry about.

If you’ve ever wondered whether a cleaner is right for you, perhaps the better question is:

What would you do with the extra time and energy?

Sometimes life just runs away with us and we miss those magic moments. I’m not saying a regular cleaner changes this with a magic wand, but it does lift the pressure and it takes one more thing off your to do list. Book today. We are here to give you back some precious time.

A bit of drive today. We are off out carrying mould audits for our HA partners on Notringham.

Mould is no longer about a quick clean and leave it be.

It is important to assess every property and carry out audits. This way the root cause can be addressed and long term remediation.
And of course the cleaning of the mould.

One thing people don’t always realise with empty properties and post-build environments

Water sitting stagnant in pipework can become a genuine risk.

Especially in vacant homes, delayed handovers, and buildings sitting unused.

This is why flushing taps, toilets, and showers matters.

Sometimes the things you can’t see are the things that matter most.

One of my favourite things about our business?

It’s not the jobs we complete.

It’s not the contracts we win.

It’s watching people build something together.

This is a dad and daughter who work as part of our team.

Different generations.
Different strengths.
Working side by side.

When people talk about recruitment, they often focus on finding staff.

I think the real goal is building a team where people feel they belong.

A place where people are respected.
A place where people are trusted.
A place where they want to stay.

Because when you create the right culture, recruitment becomes easier.

People tell people.

And good people attract good people.

Sometimes I look around our business and realise we’ve built more than a cleaning company.

We’ve built a community.

❤️

Please, please 🙏 take note and make everyone dear to you, aware of how to stay afloat. We are seeing tragic stories everyday, especially in this hot weather.
Please take care.

While most people are asleep…

Teams like ours are getting stores ready for the morning.

It’s one of the things I love about commercial cleaning.

The lights are off.
The aisles are empty.
The building is quiet.

Yet behind the scenes, people are working hard to make sure staff, customers, and visitors walk into a clean, safe environment the next day.

Most people will never know the effort that goes into it.

And that’s okay.

Because for us, it’s never been about recognition.

It’s about taking pride in doing the job properly.

This week our teams have been working across stores, offices, and commercial premises throughout the Home Counties and London, helping businesses start each day the right way.

The world might be sleeping.

But we’re still working.

Thursday is usually one of those planning days for us.

Schedules out. Jobs moved around. Looking at the week ahead trying to make sure everything fits where it should.

Next week initially looked a bit light. As if!! If you know us you know that just doesn’t exist

This felt strange because over the last 6 weeks we’ve brought on 3 new team members, so for once we actually had a bit of flexibility in the diary.

But then we jumped into our jobs awaiting list and the week filled FAST.

Sparkle cleans from our building partners. Mould audits and cleans in London, Watford and Nottingham.
High-level vacuuming for a returning client.
Pharmacy refrigerator cleans.
A few other bits that had been sitting waiting for the right space in the schedule

A lot of business growth isn’t about chasing brand new work every single week.

It’s about relationships.
It’s about being reliable.
It’s about doing good work so people come back again and again when they need you.

Not always recurring revenue in the “weekly contract” sense.

But recurring trust.

The annual high-level vacuum clean.
The repeat sparkle clean.
The planned maintenance jobs.
The call that comes in because they know you’ll sort it.

That stuff matters.

And when you stack enough of those relationships together, what first looked like a quiet week suddenly becomes a very good one.

Real business is often built in the follow-up, the consistency and the reputation

Cleaning is one of those things that quietly sits in the background of life.

And when work is busy, energy is low, children need you, or your mind already feels full… it can start to feel overwhelming very quickly.

That is why support matters.

At The Specialist Cleaning Group we believe a clean home should bring peace, not pressure.DM us for you more information.

Most people never see this side of summer.

They see the sunshine.
The BBQs.
The holidays.

We see something different too.

The jobs where the heat changes everything.

This photo was taken during a large unattended death clean back when we were still fairly new to biohazard work.

We knew it was going to be a hot day, so we started at 6am trying to avoid the worst of the heat.

But by around 10am, inside a property, in full PPE… the temperature became unbearable.

The breaks became more frequent.
Then eventually my breaks became longer than my working periods.

I started feeling faint and after around 3 hours I had to sit the rest of the clean out.

At the time I felt frustrated with myself.

But looking back now, I realise something important:

This work is not about proving how tough you are.

It’s about:

* safety
* teamwork
* professionalism
* making good decisions under pressure
* and knowing your limits

People often don’t realise how physically demanding specialist cleaning can be, especially in extreme heat.

PPE traps heat quickly.
Airflow is limited.
The emotional pressure can be high.
And behind many of these cleans is usually a much bigger human story too.

One of the biggest lessons this industry has taught me?

Being brave is not ignoring your body.
Sometimes being brave means knowing when to stop.
