Book in to have you chimney swept - it will need a little TLC before burning this coming winter. It's kind to the chimney... meaning it's kind to you. It will be clean, safe and ready for more heat-making. Beat the winter rush - book in your sweep.

Where do you store your firewood? Storing logs in close proximity to a working woodburner is a fire hazard - something sweeps see people doing only too often. Logs stacked against a working stove will dry out, can scorch and begin to smoulder!

USING THE CONTROLS OF YOUR STOVE
The single most important factor affecting the burn temperature is the way you use and control the stove.

If the air controls are shut down too much, the burning temperature drops and lots of pollution is produced. You may be completely unaware of this, so please take time to read the manufacturerโ€™s instructions and understand them.

You can have a good stove attached to a good chimney and use nice dry wood but if you close the air controls too much, then lots of damaging pollution is produced. This process also wastes your fuel and soots up the chimney.

It's Chimney Fire Safety Week!
What are you burning on your stove? The use of unseasoned wood and the misuse of your appliance can contribute to creosote buildup and cause chimney fires. Check your wood fuel quality and only burn dry wood.

It's Chimney Fire Safety Week!
Sadly, we see this all too often! Stacking wood close to your stove can result in incredibly dry wood which can so easily smoulder and could eventually catch fire. It may look nice stacked against a stove, but must be avoided. Always store your wood a safe distance from your fire.

Why should you avoid slumbering your stove?

It can lead to:
๐Ÿ”ด Sooty and/or dry deposits on the flue lining
๐Ÿ”ด Increased levels of carbon monoxide and particulates
๐Ÿ”ด Increased likelihood of condensation within the chimney

These problems will contribute to a risk of corrosion, ultimately reducing the lifespan of your liner. Find further guidance on our Advice Hub or contact your local HETAS registrant.
