1. Call G Star Cleaning
For a deeper clean that removes ingrained dirt, mold, and algae, a pressure washer is a highly effective tool. It is recommended to do this seasonally.
Safety First: Clear the area of debris and be sure to wear appropriate safety gear like goggles.
Use the Right Nozzle: Use a 25-degree nozzle for a good balance of power and safety.
Work in Sections: Start at the top of the driveway and work your way down in manageable sections, overlapping each pass to ensure an even clean.
2. Sweep Regularly
The simplest and most effective way to maintain a clean driveway is to sweep it frequently. Use a stiff broom to remove loose dirt, leaves, and other debris. This prevents organic matter from breaking down and creating stubborn stains, and it also keeps debris from being tracked into your home or car.
3. Treat Stains Immediately
Oil, grease, and other spills can quickly set into the porous surface of a driveway, especially if it's concrete. To prevent a permanent stain, address spills as soon as you see them.
For fresh spills, sprinkle an absorbent material like cat litter, sand, or baking soda over the stain. Let it sit for several hours to soak up the liquid before sweeping it away.
For older stains, a paste of baking soda and water or a commercial degreaser can be applied and scrubbed into the area with a stiff brush.
4. Control W**ds and Moss
W**ds growing in the cracks of your driveway not only look untidy but can also cause damage as their roots expand.
Manual Removal: Pulling w**ds by hand is an effective method for small areas, ensuring you remove the root.
W**d Killers: For larger areas, a natural w**d killer like a solution of vinegar and water or a commercial product can be used.
5. Apply a Driveway Sealer
Applying a sealant is a proactive way to protect your driveway. This creates a protective barrier that helps to prevent new stains from setting in and reduces damage from weather and UV light. It also inhibits the growth of w**ds and moss, making it easier to clean in the future. It is generally recommended to reseal your driveway every two to three years.
