The story of me. My journey to becoming a children’s author started as a child. I was thoughtful and creative with a big imagination. ‘Shy’ out in the world but where I was comfortable I was completely different. I was often lost in my imagination. I had difficulty speaking out in the world too, something which I now know to be situational mutism, something which I’ve struggled with as an adult as well. Working out I’m autistic took far too many years and is something which I’m still not ready to accept fully but I’m getting there. Now I get to help children to find their voice, to help them make sense of the world and to hopefully connect them to other people too. And bring a little bit of joy. It’s taken a long time to get here but it was worth the wait!

Our bereavement book campaign is aiming to get copies of our book ‘About Hedgehog’ to schools across the UK for free. We’re funding a number of copies ourselves but can’t do this alone, so we’re asking you to get involved. Could you fund a copy for your local school or find a number of copies for us to send out directly to schools? Books come complete with lesson plans for schools and we give 5% to Grief Encounter and 5% to Child Bereavement UK. If you would like to get involved then get in touch!

Such a fantastic morning on Friday - I caught an early train back from the Gift of the Year Awards to the Cotswolds so that I could make it to the business huddle hosted by and - it was a session exploring creativity and creative thinking. So much fun! I had some lovely chats and caught up with familiar faces too.

What do we do? Something really magical - we connect children to the planet and to the people around them. We encourage curiosity. We help children and families explore nature. We show how we can learn together. Through our beautiful books and activities, through educational and learning resources and through our beautiful curated made to last gifts 🍂

A gift for when they need it most. So proud that ‘About Hedgehog’ was Highly Commended in .giftoftheyear.awards in the Children’s, Pre-School and Educational category. To be an independent author running a very small business solo, it was incredible to see this achievement alongside the biggest and best in the gifting industry ❤️

Ahead of the .giftoftheyear.awards tonight where ‘About Hedgehog’ is a finalist in the Children’s, Pre-School and Educational category, I wanted to tell you a little bit more about me and why I wrote ‘About Hedgehog’ and a bit about the campaign we’re running to give this book plus lesson plans to schools across the UK. Bereavement education is being added to the curriculum this coming September and we want to support schools, children and families in talking about death and bereavement. So I need your help! It’s the Gift of the Year Awards event on Thursday night and I can’t decide what to wear. I have narrowed it down to two dress choices but I can’t choose between them. So over to you - do I go for a traditional black gown or something more colourful like the Kemi Telford dress??

As Sir David Attenborough turns 100 I want to throw it back to receiving not one but two letters from him wishing me well with my books ‘Away’ and ‘Oceans Away’. Inspired by his work to highlight the environment, nature and the incredible wildlife we’re lucky enough to share our world with, I’m so grateful that he took the time to write back to me to acknowledge the books. Happy 100th birthday Sir David!
