I always get we dont need pest control or we do pest control ourselves - great, I cant win them all, but any business with any food onsite should take heed a £20000 fine is no laughing matter let alone the damage to your business.

Everyday I try to educate people in responsible usage of baiting. I have no problem in helping anyone, as I'd rather things were done safely. I would however recommend using a registered pest controller. Although there is always risk, there are alternatives of course and I for one bait safely and usually shift a rat infestation in a week to ten days and then proof the area to prevent it happening again. Do you think its time the sale of toxic bait should be banned to the general public?

Adult falcons Peter and Peggy had four eggs at the cathedral this spring. One never hatched but the other three who were born have died - with two feared poisoned.

Cockroaches may have a dirty reputation, but they’re actually thorough groomers. After touching a human, they usually start cleaning right away—not because they’re grossed out, but to protect their survival. Oils, sweat, and unfamiliar chemicals from our skin can disrupt the sensitivity of their antennae and legs, which they rely on to sense and navigate. Grooming restores their precision—a practical ritual, not an emotional one.

🐝 Buzzing Stripey Things Guide – Know Your Friendly & Not-So-Friendly Flyers

🌼 Friendly Flyers (Mostly Harmless)

Honeybee – Excellent pollinator, makes honey, friendly unless provoked, needs our help the most.

Bumblebee – Very friendly, can sting multiple times, basically a flying fat panda, excellent pollinator.

Carpenter Bee – Males can’t sting but may act aggressive; important pollinators, more nuisance than threat.

Hoverfly – Can’t sting, wears a “bee uniform” for protection, may follow you if it likes you.

⚠️ Watch Out – Can Sting if Threatened

Paper Wasp – Scary-looking but not too dangerous unless provoked; builds paper-like nests; pollinators with no sense of personal space.

Yellow Jacket – Aggressive, minimal pollination, wants your food, can sting multiple times, sometimes fatal.

Hornet – Big, intimidating, mostly nests above ground; aggressive if provoked.

🕷 Special Mentions

Mud Dauber – Spider hunter, builds mud “organ pipe” nests, rarely aggressive, abandons nests.

Cicada Killer Wasp – Huge, scary-looking but only attacks cicadas; will sting if provoked.
