A drain survey in Bromley completed towards the end of last year identified multiple points of exit for rodents within a converted garage (now study).

The section of drainage itself was a branch connection with no direct downstream access to this line. We identified:

- A redundant branch connection serving an uncapped gully.
- Faulty connection on the rest bend of the SVP.
- Multiple fractures along the section of original clay pipe work.

Floor was removed, excavation down to the drain line, entire section of drainage removed including redundant branch.

Patch repair installed from internal boundary up to connection before main line.

New drainage installed up to the soil pipe.

Internal excavation is always a last resort but with no direct access to this drainage it was our only option.

Five days in total from floor removal to relay.

THIS CUSTOMER WAS QUOTED £2000 TO INSTALL A ONE WAY VALVE (in a shared line)!!!! 😡

Drain investigation carried out in Dartford.

Buried manhole located under kitchen extension, one inlet appeared to be redundant.

Buried manhole was sonde located and revealed to confirm our suspicions, redundant inlet previously serving kitchen waste gully made redundant during extension.

Line now capped with multiple layers of wire mesh and a strong mortar mix.

Another rat free, happy client!

When hiring a company for rodent drainage investigation is it vital they are able to investigate blind junctions!!

We were called out to Eltham SE London to conduct a drain survey, a previous contractor had been called in and investigated the system. The branch connection had been located but not identified as redundant and so never reported as a point of entry for rats.

We conducted a survey and turned the camera into the branch to reveal two completely redundant lines, both full of rodent nesting materials which they were carrying to and from the property.

Job completed in North London, due to the size/depth of the inspection chamber our confined space team were required on site to carry out this survey.

Redundant left hand branch connection located under kitchen extension, allowing rats to exit and enter to subfloor.

Branch capped off with no dig repair and another happy customer.

We were called out to survey a drainage system in Sidcup, we located a section of redundant drainage allowing rats to exit the system and enter the kitchen.

Between this section of drainage and the inspection chamber was a live branch connection serving a gully.

Because of this the redundant section of drainage required capping off directly via external excavation.

We excavated approximately one meter, through two sections of concrete to access the pipe. We then cut into the redundant line and capped both ends with steel b**gs backed with mortar.

Finally the area was backfilled and brought back up to level. Pest control will now monitor the internal activity.

Another successful investigation complete ✅

Nothing like finding the branch connection the builder promised didn’t exist, whilst they’re on site watching….. and protesting their innocence 😬

Two jobs completed today:

Bearsted - inlet upstream of manhole, now redundant but had been capped off at the end of the line, which was fine until the joint displaced and allowed rats to use this opening to burrow out. Steel b**g fitted, backed with a strong mortar mix.

Croydon - breach in manhole wall allowing rats to burrow under patio, and exit into the garden. Multiple layers of strong mortar and galvanised wire mesh insured this no longer can happen.

A great result today.

Reoccurring rat in a b**galow in Bromley.

A rat valve had been fitted to the waste system a few years ago, however unfortunately this is not where the problem lied.

There was a separate rain water system, whist surveying this system we located an old surface water drain, now under the extension floor. We were able to locate this and found the cover was ajar and allowing rats to exit the system and enter the subfloor.

The line also carried on upstream and began to fill with rubble, which we will jet clear and resurvey on a return visit.
